I'm trying to get the launcher working for mod selection, and I keep getting "this mod is not present on disk. Subscribe to it or remove it from the playset.". There is a slight issue with this warning message, the issue being it does exist on my disk. I can see the files in my file viewer. I have thus far tried:
unsubscribing and resubscribing
verifying game file integrity
delete the folder Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/
delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/launcher-v2.sqlite (<-this was a very fun one as it got the 3 missing mods working, but broke all the other 200+ mods on my hard disk. The launcher could not recognize them)
Manually editing the ugc_xxx.mod file that already exists for the mod
Manually creating a ugc_xxx.mod file
Things I will not be doing:
Unsubscribing from all mods and then resubscribing. I am subscribed to 200+ mods at this point and want to keep a good 150 of them at least. I'm not gonna spend up to an hour clicking a button over and over again.

I don't know what else to suggest then. You may simply have exceeded the launcher's capabilities there!

What launcher version do you se?? Current is 2021.7.2 . If that's what you have you could opt into the 2021.8. beta, see if that helps.

I do currently have 2021.7.2. I'll give the 2021.8 beta a try and see if that helps. How would I go about doing so? I tried enabling the option that says "receive beta versions of the launcher" however I still get the 2021.7.2 version when I open the game.

That slider should make it download the update to 2021.8 , you need to restart the launcher for that to happen.

interesting. Seems like I found another way to break the launcher then. I do have the slider selected, but my launcher seems to be stuck at 2021.7.2. I assume the numbers under the "launcher settings" is the launcher version.

You didn't see the launcher downloading any update?

In this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Sorry for the delay, I'm not sure which of the .log files you want so I'll attach them all (3 of the 7 files were tagged as "empty" by the forum). I'm not sure if it's worth noting but I just noticed that I was logged out at some point and the launcher doesn't have me logged in anymore. I'm not sure if that impacts the ability to update the launcher.

As an aside, I see you are running Stellaris in openGL mode. That is slower and less reliable than standard DirectX, can I ask why that is?

Those logs show 2021.7.2 just fine but I see no attempt to access the beta. The launcher has not been reinstalled since February though, so lets do a clean reinstall of it:

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam to install 2021.7.2 - it may take a couple of launcher restarts to get up to that version

- thej opt into the launcher beta

Good luck!

Interesting. I can't say I'm super surprised that the logs don't show an attempt to access the beta, as sometimes the launcher just doesn't accept button presses. I couldn't tell you for the life of me why it's in open GL mode. Perhaps I put it that way in order to play with some friends and then never put it back?

I did the steps you outlined and while it did fix my original issue, it also caused a new one. Two of the mods I had previously enabled and were working no longer are selectable. They have the error "installation was interrupted, log in to continue". I am logged into both steam and my pdx account on the launcher. What should I do about this issue?

But that change would have no effect on MP whatsoever, all it does is mean you use a different video standard on your machine. Its main use is in diagnosing video/graphics issues where the problem might be DirectX. I recommend you remove that launch option.

Did you try again the steps you laid out in your OP here in that regard?

I have no issues with changing the launcher from open GL to Directx. I suspect I changed it a while ago (possibly over a year ago) when I ran into issues with the launcher and it worked at the time for solving my issues.

In my repeating of the steps laid out in OP, specifically at this step: "delete the folder Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/", a further 5 mods that were previously working swapped to "this mod is not present on disk. Subscribe to it or remove it from the playset."

The two mods changed from "installation was interrupted, log in to continue" to "this mod is not present on disk. Subscribe to it or remove it from the playset."

Hmmm. If you unsubscribe from those mods, reboot and subscribe to them again, do they come down now?

What antivirus app do you use? Add stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list. You should add steam.exe and C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.7.2/paradox launcher.exe (or the equivalent 2021.8 folder if that is what you have now) to that list.

The mods do not come back.
I have added both the stellaris.exe and the launcher files to the windows security exceptions list. I also do not have ransomware protection activated, and as a result I don't think that matters. I added both the launcher versions to the exceptions list.

I have tried cutting down the amount of mods I am subscribed to via steam in case I just was subscribed to too many mods. I have also tried deleting the entire mod folder in stellaris, as well as the mods themselves in the steam folder. None of these steps worked. I still have 14 mods marked as "this mod is not present on disk. Subscribe to it or remove it from the playset.". All of them are actually on my disk.

Something I noticed, I just did a complete uninstall and reinstall of stellaris and those specific mods are still broken in the launcher. I'm not sure if this is to be expected or not, but I figured it might be worth remarking on.

Most problems I had with the launcher were related to faulty path directions. E.g. whenever i switched between the beta branch and the game, the launcher "lost" to correct game path, had no clue any more where my game was, and tried to do anything from scratch.

As a start. try to locate your launcher-settings.json file. It should be located where the exe file of the launcher can be found, which is named bootstrapper-v2.exe or similar.

Once found, you can open your launcher-settings.json file with windows editor. Check the game path settings. The line you are looking for looks something like this:

"exePath": "stellaris.exe",
"gameDataPath": "D:/spiele/steam/steamapps/common/stellaris",

Is the path in that launcher-settings.json file identical with the folder where you always had your game files? If not, backup that file and edit it, pointing towards where your game really is.

Another thing to check is the launcherpath file. It has no extension, and is located on your C drive under user/username/appdata/local/paradox interactive/ While that file has no extension at all, you can still open and edit it with Windows editor. It should contain the patch where your bootstrapper.exe file can really be found, in my case that is looking like:

D:\spiele\steam\steamapps\common\stellaris\

which you should not copy or try, because in general its stupid to have both the game and the bootstrapper exes in the same folder as I do. Anyway, make sure that file points to where the launcher is, or you will be in all sorts of trouble.

I navigated to the where the exe file of the launcher is, however there was no launcher-settings.json file. I had a .cpatch, two launcher version folders and a ThirdPartyLicense.txt. I checked inside both of the version folders. Doing a full search of my computer resulted in finding a launcher-settings.json file in the steam directory for stellaris. I don't know if thats odd, however it might be worth keeping in mind for the future.

looking at the gameDataPath line, it seems to be looking for "%USER_DOCUMENTS%/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris", which is where my files like cache, crashes and the mod folder is. I assume that is the correct location instead of the actual location where the stellaris.exe file is. The launcherpath file is also pointing to the correct location where the bootstrapper exe is found.

So where is your stellaris.exe file then, exactly? You are probably using some directory called /games/steam/steamapps/common/stellaris or sumsuch? And your stellaris.exe is right there as well? Then it would be my understanding that in your launcher-settings.json file the line gameDataPath should point towards where your game.exe really is, and not anywhere else regardless if cache and crashdumps were there. Why not backup the file, and try editing that line with the directory where your game.exe is located and watch what happens?

My stellaris.exe is located in "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Stellaris". The reason I assumed that the launcher should point to a separate location is that the mods folder, which is where the ugc_mods files are is in this other location.

When I attempted to change the path to the location where the .exe was, the program said that it couldn't find the file folders and then reset itself back to the previous location the launcher pointed to.

Is there a way to do the whole "unsubscribe and resubscribe to all mods" thing without having to individually click on every single mod? I'm hitting week 2 where I'd like to enjoy the game and I can't because of this issue.

Alternatively, is there a way to activate the mods without having to go through the launcher?

The mods are read from Documents/paradox/stellaris/mod/ folder, regardless of where Stellaris is installed. I have this game on my D: drive and it finds mods on Documents/paradox/stellaris/mod/ under the C: drive just fine.

In the Steam Workshop there is an "unsubscribe from all mods" button. But there's no converse of that, I'm sorry.

2021.8.1 just came out, are you on that now?

I am currently on 2021.8-rc.3, as I am still opped in to beta content. Should I remove that option and revert to the most recent standard release?

I have noticed that the launcher is either freezing with a blank mono-color (I.E. there are no buttons to click, it is literally just a window of a solid color) or getting stuck on "Reloading installed mods". In the case of a freeze, the only way to get the launcher to work again is to force quit the launcher. I am unsure if this is an important detail or not.
