I am currently on 2021.8-rc.3, as I am still opped in to beta content. Should I remove that option and revert to the most recent standard release?
Yes please! That beta is actually older than the current release at present, until they start work on 2021.9

getting stuck on "Reloading installed mods"
How long have you waited? With a lot of large mods that can take a while.

The longest I've waited in the past was 5 minutes. I'll try leaving it on while I do some other stuff and see if it fixes itself after an hour or two. I've also reverted out of beta and am now back on 2021.8.1.

Edit: I left it for an hour and change and came back and there was not progress. The launcher was still "reloading installed mods".

Edit the second: Left it alone for 3 hours. Still stuck on "reloading installed mods".

Could you please do the following? It will generate a debug log that the launcher team can use to "deep dive" into what actually happens with the launcher.

  • Right click the game in question in Steam > Properties > Launch Options
  • Paste in this: --pdxlDebug
  • Run the game
  • Once it fails to launch, locate the logs in the following place depending on your platform:

%LocalAppData%\Paradox Interactive\launcher-v2\logs\
(example: C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Paradox Interactive\launcher-v2\logs\)

Please attach all logs in that folder and we will get the launcher team to check them out.

I'm not sure if by "fails to launch" you meant that the launcher was supposed to self terminate or if you meant as it continues previously established behavior. The launcher did launch, and continued to have the issue of being stuck on generating mods. I include this in case it matters.

Either way, here are the logs generated. There are also a pair of 1KB JSON files which didn't show up in the "attach files" finder. If those are important let me know and I'll figure out a way to get them uploaded as well. It's worth noting that I tried deleting the mods folder, the steam workshop folder and the launcher-v2.sqlite file earlier today in an attempt to see if doing the same thing again would fix anything. I put this in for completion of information for the people that will be looking through the log files.

Can you please just zip them all into one file and attach that? Then I can pass it on as is. Thanks!

Thank you! I've passed that onto the launcher devs.

It's been 20 days, is it possible to get some sort of update on what's blowing up? Either that or some kind of guess as to when I might be able to find out. I do actually want to play the game sometime.

I hope and expect the next launcher update to help with this, but I don't have a date for that I'm afraid - it is still in internal testing.

So I did find the cause of the issue. Apparently a few of the mods on my subscription list were deleted from the workshop. I can only assume that the launcher failed to detect this at one point, and as a result got in an endless loop of trying to download a mod that doesn't exist. In the off chance that anyone finds this thread in the future, this is a way to do the "unsubscribe and resubscribe to all mods" thing. Although you can skip the unsubscribe step if you use the collection to tell which mods are removed from the workshop and just unsubscribe from them.
