Thus begins the chronicles of the Kingdom of England 1066
"YOU" bellowed the King of England to the elderly monk sitting in a corner of the throne room, the thin monk wearing a brown robe shuddered, "Me Sire?" King William smiled, "Yes you, what are you doing." The Monk was still shivering and he pointed at the vellum parchment, "Chronicling your life sire." William smiled, "My life? Really? Lets see what you have so far."

Looks neat, will follow.

cool I have readers, guess that means I have follow through and post an update, ooc comments by me shall be in italic, dialogus and prose in normal and the monks chronicles in bold, this AAR will be a mixture between prose and history book, enjoy. By the way short updates like this will be approximately daily

The monk was shivering and shanking under the attention of the King, his chronicling rarely received positively, he was supposed to be unbiased but a king wanted to read, "Yes my lord as you can see the first page is about you my lord."

William smiled, "Just the first page monk? I'd have thought I'd deserve more than a page in my own chronicle." William broke out into laughter, The monk shivered under the kings laugh. "Yes my lord but the first page is an introduction, after that it will introduce your court, your realm, and your progeny, after that it will tell the story."

The monk nodded resolved that he must confidently show the King the chronicle, first theres a picture a brief description of you.

His Royal Majesty King William I of England-Profile 1066

William, of the House of Normandy, first of his name to Rule the Kingdom of England. An energetic ruler whose boundless energy has for many years served the Duchy of Normandy well. His justice to his people and his cruelty to his enemies is renowned throughout the western world. His self opinion fits that of his role, he believes himself worthy to be King through god given right and he is. His disagreements with the church started early in life with his consanguine marriage with his distant cousin Mathilda of Flanders and continued at a low boil throughout his life so far. Williams wisdom is know through the western world and several nobles come to him for advice. His valor in battle was proved in combat for his entire life, first defeating rebel lords in Normandy and then defeating French invasions before his great campaign to claim the British crown. Williams suspicion of saxon lordlings is well founded based on the possibility that they will rebel.

William is best known as a military leader and was at one stage offered a career as a professional soldier should he fail to inherit his fathers lands.

Talk about unbiased account... :p

Oh to William's eyes its a heavily biased account against him, remember he is a proud man, mentions of consanguine marriage, cruelty ect will piss him off, most chroniclers were biased towards the person they were writing about but the subject off the chronicle would often disagree.

you started AAR writing again and you didn't tell me?! Ah well i didn't miss anything big :D I'm following my good friend!

Sorry I missed my update yesterday, daily from now on however, Rob, I'd have told you but I wanted to see if it held my interest before I called in a claque, anyway I told you I would start one soon

"Whats next, thats a really big chronicle you have there monk and it can't all be about me since I've been king, I was only crowned the other day, what else is in there" William was getting curious he rarely read chronicles and he wanted to know what else was in this one, was there picture of his wipe? Or other scandalous imagery, maybe not a monk was writing this, perhaps a digest on his court, its always nice to get an outside view.

The monk shivered under the intense stare of the King, "Your Majesty the next section is about your rivals." William shook his head, "Rivals?" William walked away and the monk let out a sigh or relief, the chronicle based interrogation was over, maybe he could now take out the real chronicle rather than the backup flattery based one, an adviser of his gave him just in case.

William walked back carrying a lexicon, the monk was speaking Latin and William was more proficient at French, he had been confused by the Monks use of the word rival, "Middle French, from Latin rivalis one using the same stream as another." The monk shook his head, "What my lord?" William laughed, "rivalis: one using the same stream as another while competing for competitive advantage, I can't have rivals the Crown of England is a private stream they merely splash in dirty brooks."

The monk nodded, "yes Your Majesty, however these individuals consider themselves in the same stream as Your Majesty." William shook his head, "Fools I have no rivals." The monk nodded "Yes your majesty"

The rivals of the King

The Leofricson brothers, the only two saxon dukes in Norman England, ruling Lancaster and Northumberland either Duke believes in his potential to put the crown on his own head.

Their Loyalty to the crown is tenuous and they are not likely to hold to their oaths of loyalty.

These prestigious saxon lords could revolt with the backing of the entire Saxon population. That would be problematic from the nation. It is hard to tell which of the individuals would be pushed to stake a claim for the English crown. Edwin is wise but Morcar has a greater landholding.

There is also the risk that the two dukes could desert and move to Scotland. Their landholdings would make the Scottish Kingdom a real threat and they themselves would be free of those that they refer to as Norman invaders

Ah but if I did that where would the fun be for the rest of the game, I'm not going to invade my vassals I'm gonna write a story and end up (in 5-10 years) invading my vassals maybe if they don't die or rebel
