hey guys,

I'm interested in finding a good play group for Vicky. I've been playing HOI2, and Ive been involved in many unfinsihed pickup games. :(

I just ordered Vicky off amazon.com, and it probably take me a few days to get used to the UI and gameplay. So when you guys decide to start a Tide of War III, i would love to be apart of your guys game. By then I should be familar the game.

Alas, there will probably not be a TOW III, unless we get a good few faithful gamers in. So I suggest you jump in at the deep end and play Prussia or Austria. Prussia is probably your best choice, you can grab large parts of Austria, since I (Ottoman Empire) smashed their army in the recent war. I promise to protect you from the evil Italians.

In order to play a MP game of Vikky without bogging down, what do you need?

- Is owning a fairly fast computer with extra memory very necessary?
- How about speed of internet connection? Is 56K gonna cut it at all?
- Anything else?

JaseJ1 - Hi. Yes, why not baptism under fire? :) Either way, welcome.

LM+ - I use 256MB RAM. Would 128MB work? Probably. 64MB? no clue. 56K ISP... probably wont work :( However, I'm sure your more than welcom to give it a shot :)

Guys,
Sorry to intrude on your thread. I just wanted to say that in the original Saturday night game, we had someone who used a 56k. They had to go on slow/very slow but it is possible.

King & Lotus: oh sounds good! I thought you guys might not want a noob joining your game. But if you willing, I'm up for it :) hopefully i'll get the game by this weekend.

Ill keep you guys up to date.

Excellent, hope you can make it. As for noobs, speaking as the Ottoman Empire, I would absolutely welcome a newbie Austria. :D Mmmm... Balkan provinces! No, seriously, I promise to go easy on you the first month. A counterweight to an increasingly aggressive France is not a bad idea.

Hello. I've been playing Victoria for about a month now, and I think I'd like to give multiplayer a shot. I'm afraid I don't know much about the different games and groups, though...are there any that are more friendly for North American time zones? Ones that a multiplayer novice can get a good feel for? Etc?

Thanks for the info CC :) I am willing to try a modem person.

JaseJ1 - good :) We have no probs allowing 'newbs'. Skill of play imo isnt as important as diplomacy anyway!

FJ - our game I thought was North American friendly! as all of us, save 1, are in N.A. Game is Sundays at 3PM Eastern. And as for being a novice, well, I think we were all novices when we started this ToWI last spring! So come and join a baptism under fire :)

Oh, that sounds good, then. I'd love to give it a try. Is there anywhere I can find out which nations are open?

Here are a couple pics to show the current situation:
Russia = RP
UK = Lotus
OE = KOM
USA = Trav
France = Kle

Welcome, Franz Josef! To answer your question a bit more directly, Austria is open but just got spanked, losing most of its Adriatic coastline. Spain is open, though France has been knocking it about a bit. Prussia is open, and has lost only a few Polish provinces, gaining most of Denmark and parts of Sweden to compensate. Italy is open, though it's a French satellite these days. In short, the European balance of power is tilting towards the nations that have been human-ruled from the start, but probably not disastrously so as yet. Diplomacy will be the key to taking Prussia or Austria back into the top of the first rank. Your best bet is probably to offer Great Britain your aid in containing Russia; another solution may be to diplomatically isolate either France or the Ottoman Empire and going for a decisive war.

Going off the beaten track, Brazil has grown powerful on American support; I'm sure everybody would welcome some balance in the New World. (Particularly those of us who tried to intervene in the ACW but were warned off by Britain - in effect, we pissed off the US without anything to show for our troubles.) Japan has had its troubles, since they chose the Dutch Letter, but may be salvageable. China could be a decisive factor in a Far Eastern war between Russia and the UK, and might be able to play those two sides against the middle and gain technological aid.

Lotus, what did you do to the colours of that map? And why?

Hmmm...since I've not tried a MP game yet, maybe I'll try as Brazil...being in a far off corner may make for a good learning spot. Where can I find the times the game will take place, and what rules apply to the game?

In the first post of this thread. Trav updates it every so often. Also, please acquire ICQ and post your ICQ number so we can find you on Sunday.

Alright, just got ICQ. My number is 245459958.

Excellent! For some reason, that seems to be the point at which we lose a lot of people. 'Get ICQ', we tell them, and - poof - they're gone. Glad to see you still around after clearing that hurdle.

*Plots to conquer South America in the name of Allah*

Nah, kidding. Lotus would never let me ship a single division across the Atlantic. I do welcome a counterweight to the US; I suggest you conquer as much of your continent as possible, as rapidly as possible, and will gladly support you with money for that purpose.

Excellent. Told my wife I'd be busy for a few hours. I look forward to it. ;)
