This is a small problem but it's really really annoying to me. You're supposed to be able to adjust time-compression on the fly with ctrl "+" and "-". However, it does not work at all for me. Is there anyway to remap this or something? I'm playing on a laptop if that has anything to do with anything.

North American Version 1.02
Windows XP home; 5.1.2600 Build 2600
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 1.70GHz
512MB RAM
2 gigs free
NVIDIA GeForce4 440 Go (Toshiba)
DirectX 9.0

thanks

Have u tried the keyboard mapping utility in the Useful Tools sticky at the top of this forum?

No, i hadn't tried that, but it still doesnt work. I can hit "-" and "+" and it will zoom and unzoom the map no problem. But when i hit ctrl - or + it won't do anything. It'll just sit there and the game speed will remain unchanged.

I tried using the remapping utility to remap the bracket keys [ and ] into ctrl - and + macros, but it still doesn't do anything. Has anyone else had this problem?

It's a Toshiba Satellite 5105 and the keyboard only has one ctrl key, on the left. Yes, this is a bizarre problem, I have no clue what the heck is wrong.

Also, just to make sure, the - and + hot keys for the map zoom, does everyone else also have to hit shift "=" for the zoom in?

On a full size keyboard the + and - keys on the numeric keypad work for zooming in and out. If you have a numeric keypad on the right side of your keyboard try using those keys.

That just jogged my memory!

I've run into the same problem with a Compaq laptop and EU2. IIRC the solution I found was to do the fctn+numlock to give you the keypad instead, and then it work with the + and - keys on the keypad.

I've had the same problem on my laptop (IBM) You have to "activate" the "numeric" part of the ordinary letters part of the keyboard (somewhere left of the enter key) the ordinary - an + in the upper row doesn't work with ctrl.

Just watch out if you do active the numpad and has to write passwaords afterwards :)

Noonsa, let us know if any of these things clear your problem up, sounds like they should.

I'd like to give an answer, but now it seems as though a completely new and unrelated problem has appeared. Now, when I load the game, it will automatically minimize itself. I can hear the music playing but whenever i try to maximize the app it will just minimize itself again.

I was in the game fine the day before. But, now, all of a sudden, when I get a lead on how to bypass my time hotkey problem, the game refuses to cooperate. Any suggestions?

Hmmmm.... so you click on the HOI task in your taskbar, it maximizes and then immediately minimizes? That is very weird.... Do you have this problem with other full screen applications/games?

Could be a problem with the Dx9 beta?

No, I don't have this problem with anything else. In fact, i didn't have this problem for this game until today.

I don't believe DX9 is at fault as I had DX9 installed before i even installed the game on this computer. I only received HOI a couple days ago. Plus, DX9 is not in Beta anymore, I believe.

i found an effective, but annoying sidestep to this problem. If i click randomly and repeatedly in the black screen immediately following clicking on HOI in the taskbar, the game will stay open for me. unfortunately i have to do this whenever I, start the game; load a game; return to the game after windowing out to write things on forums.

Oh and yes, using the function key to activate the keypad part on my keyboard worked. So time compression will only work with the keypad - and +.

Woops... sorry, looks like i was wrong. I'd thought this was a HoI specific problem but it looks like all other full-screen applications behave in the same manner. I must have screwed with some windows setting some where last night... if only i knew which one it was...

Hit control alt del, then see if anything unusual is listed as running.
Try renaming the AVI folder to AVIback.

No... not running anything unusual. Like i said, this problem isn't HoI related. All full-screen apps do the same thing. It just started this morning, it's driving me crazy. Oh well, not a HoI problem, so you guys needn't worry about it. thanks!

The reason I was asking is to see if something was not unloaded from memory properly. The Bink player is known to cause problems with resolution so I thought it might be interfering here as well. If you turn your computer off and do not attempt to start HOI at all, do you still have problems say with word pad?

Roll back the DirectX 9.0 to 8.1 (build 2600) - 9.0 is still in public beta and is not fully functional on all systems. It wouldn't be a bad idea to send an error report to Uncle Bill...:p

Quick answer...

Possibly already answered this way, too lazy to read all the posts for the asnwer :D

I ran into this too...the speed bit...and noticed that they are mapped to the specific symbol not the key. I mean, when you hit ctrl + you are actually hitting ctrl =, but HoI is looking for ctrl +. Look at your keypad and see if you have to hold shift down to activate the minus and plus characters, it could be you are actually sending underscore and equals to HoI. Personally I nit numlock, and use ctrl and the + & - on the numpad.

Thanks for the tip!
