Hello All, i just got the game a few days ago, and i just finished the tutorial. Well, i won the tutorial, but am still unsure about my knowledge/ability of the game. Specifically the area of trade. When i'm getting only 0.2d a month at the beginning, that doesn't logically SEEM like it should be good. Is it? What are ways to get a significant amount of money? Or, if you're not supposed to have a significant amount of money, what ARE you supposed to do?

I love the game, it just seems so slow starting out because of this.

Second, sometimes in one of the real scenarios (not the tutorial) when you send a colonist, it will fail. What are some ways to tell what the chances are for a colonist to succeed, or what are some ways to increase those chances? It's rather frustrating when only 1 out of every 5 colonists (maybe not that many) make it.

What are some ways to tell what the chances are for a colonist to succeed
click on the ship (colonization) in the left pane and then hold your cursor over the area you want to colonize and it will give you some stats. the only way i know to improve your chances of success it to have a trader there first, but you have to wait until you research a certain level of Trade before they're available. i'm like you i'm kinda stumbling thru this too :D

The incredibly cryptic manual lists some things on page 77 that increase your chance of success: the presence of a Conquistador, whether it already has a trading post, and the number of earlier attempts.

That same paragraph also lists some things that affect the expense of setting up the colony.

Look at Huszics or Oranjes FAQs - there you can find details about 'what chances are for colonist to succeed'. You can find links on this forum, Huszics and Oranje are moderators, so you can quickly find them.
Or if you known polish you will find these and others information in polish faq on my site.

regards

Not every conquistador is created equal either as far as I can tell. Some seem brilliant at improving the colonisation chances while others are frankly useless.

Oops. I read the FAQ but missed that :)

Don't always wipe out the natives. If their agressiveness is low(for me 5 or below)they are a great help when the colony becomes a city.

Economy wise is a bit harder.Early I put merchants into 3 or 4 CoT to bring in some money.I also promote all Baliffs to Tax collectors in all provinces and then upgrade them when the time arrives. As England in the GC in 1690 I now control 4 CoT's and my monthly income before expenditures is 227 Ducats.I also have 10,000 ducats in my treasury though it is partly due to being a relatively peaceful nation.
