I know it is VERY hard work to create a map but how did they create the vanilla map or the MyMAP? What programs do I have to have?

Dunno how Paradox made the vanilla map, but MyMAP and other fan-made maps are created in Photoshop and converted into game data structure using Inferis' tool.

The tool is called Magellan. It's free and you can get it here

I'm not sure whether GIMP can be used, but I think it won't work. Somebody with more experiences will give you more info about this.

Magellan requires PSD file with a special data layer. You can get it by converting vanilla game map into the PSD. There you'll also see, how the layers should be organized for successful conversion.

How to convert the game map into PSD and your PSD into game map should be described on the page I linked ;)

Would love to send my first posts but those are on swedish. The first question was: What is vanilla and where to get it :p

You're kidding, right? Everybody knows what vanilla is:

And vanilla game is a game you play while eating vanilla ice-cream

Btw. may I ask what map are you going to create. You probably had some idea of new map when you was asking about the creation process. So, what is you plan? :)

A map over europe and north africa I think with many many provinces :p
Have started writing the map and shall now start understanding how Magellan works..

The map should be played on either two or three diffrent scenarios -

1. The early medivals with the fall of the western roman empire ( 453-953 )
2. The late medivals ( lol the medivals like CK or something ) ( 1066 - 1453 )

And my head project :D :
3. The Napoleonic Wars on a very big european map

Karei I like your Ptolemy World map project, lots and lots of provs :p
You might see me there to try to help if it's not finished yet

Although I think I need a better map than the one I got if it gotta be 18944x7296

But still I'm gonna create a "Test Map" in GIMP so I can toy around with where provinces should be

Where did you get those maps to Ptolemy World map project?
