Japan is still too far, so, no, it isn't finished yetAntiago said:Karei I like your Ptolemy World map project, lots and lots of provs
You might see me there to try to help if it's not finished yet
Probably you don't. The world map (or European map) doesn't need to be extremely large. Yes, you should use the largest one you can get, but you'll use it in the end just as a placement reference for more detailed maps of smaller sections.Although I think I need a better map than the one I got if it gotta be 18944x7296![]()
In Ptolemy I use a world map ( 3000 x 2000 IIRC )for a rough reference. Over it are placed much more detailed maps of certain region - the Greece, Gallia, Germania, Iberia, etc. The world map in the background is just to help me catch the scale of the section map (how should I rescale and rotate the map of a section to get the most realistic result).
So you can use European map as the rough reference, and use detailed maps of countries over it. And over the countries you can place even more detailed maps of particular area, if you'll want.
Most of the maps I used till now are from The Atlas of Ancient and Classical Geography.Where did you get those maps to Ptolemy World map project?
But these are too old for you.
You may found good maps in David Rumsey Map Collection.
However you can take a screenshot (or save the picture from RMB command list) just of the part of map you'll actually see in their viewer, so taking whole detailed map needs set high resolution on monitor and take the map on two or three times and finally merge the parts in PaintBrush, or whatever else, together.
But you can always use Google's image search engine. It'll give you tons of maps and lot of the links takes you on sites with more maps available.
