Karei I like your Ptolemy World map project, lots and lots of provs :p
You might see me there to try to help if it's not finished yet
Japan is still too far, so, no, it isn't finished yet :p

Although I think I need a better map than the one I got if it gotta be 18944x7296
Probably you don't. The world map (or European map) doesn't need to be extremely large. Yes, you should use the largest one you can get, but you'll use it in the end just as a placement reference for more detailed maps of smaller sections.
In Ptolemy I use a world map ( 3000 x 2000 IIRC )for a rough reference. Over it are placed much more detailed maps of certain region - the Greece, Gallia, Germania, Iberia, etc. The world map in the background is just to help me catch the scale of the section map (how should I rescale and rotate the map of a section to get the most realistic result).
So you can use European map as the rough reference, and use detailed maps of countries over it. And over the countries you can place even more detailed maps of particular area, if you'll want. ;)

Where did you get those maps to Ptolemy World map project?
Most of the maps I used till now are from The Atlas of Ancient and Classical Geography.
But these are too old for you.

You may found good maps in David Rumsey Map Collection.
However you can take a screenshot (or save the picture from RMB command list) just of the part of map you'll actually see in their viewer, so taking whole detailed map needs set high resolution on monitor and take the map on two or three times and finally merge the parts in PaintBrush, or whatever else, together.

But you can always use Google's image search engine. It'll give you tons of maps and lot of the links takes you on sites with more maps available.

Have started writing the map and shall now start understanding how Magellan works..

The map should be played on either two or three diffrent scenarios -

1. The early medivals with the fall of the western roman empire ( 453-953 )
2. The late medivals ( lol the medivals like CK or something ) ( 1066 - 1453 )

Have you seen MWATK? It was designed for the Mongol Era and features Europe and Asia. Good luck if you can get that working...

And the Old World Map is designed for the arab conquests of the 7th century.

Well I can put up the world map when I'm finished with it

These maps are perfect, atleast I can use them to see where the borders where ;)

Well, the map is first to be a Napoleon mod I think as it only seems to be new maps for the older times ( like arabia, soon Ptolemya and MWATK )
But if I find them I will test them

They are on the Scenarios and Mods forum euII right?

I think, a huge amount of people will welcome it.
The fantasy map would make from EU2 absolutely something else. Well, you can have WATK, MyMAP, or other upcomming maps that are changing borders of provinces, their number, etc. however, still you know, where you are. You know the world and you know what is under the terra incognita (I don't mean the permanent one now). If you have some knowledge, then you know that this or that area of world is rich, this is poor, etc. When you are in Europe, you know that on the West is America and you teoretically know how rich or poor its parts are.

But when you make a fantasy map, place a player somewhere surrounded with unexplored territories, the exploration will suddenly provide absolutely new sort of enjoyment. Something, what a lot of people playing original Eu2 already forgot.

You don't know where is the coast. You don't know, if you'd go in this dirrection of ocean, whether you'll find some rich land, or any land ot all.
"Explore" will get absolutely new meaning.

So by myself I say: "What the hell are you still waiting for? The map had to be here already yesterday!"

Or it should be cool to create a total fantasy map, not over the earth but a whole new world

Well just today actually i downloaded the random map generator for EU3. That does the job reasonable well. Shame it doesn't work for EU2.

Edit: Or what YodaMaster posted :eek:o I always thought that was just a mod on a fantasy map.

Havent tried it myself but does it actually create continents, or just the usual Pangaea as people comment?

Intresting mod that fanatsia, but is that only on just that piece of an other earth?
I don't really understand what they mean in that post about:
"- With first, you can create fantasy mod with random map automatically.
It used ImageMagick and Magellan from Inferis (inclued in the installation). Thanks to them."

But I will start write a new fantasy map and will start a post of it if someones intrested in helping :p

In this?
Well, is anyone intrested in helping with a fantasy mod? I'm not a very good modder but I CAN mod some things atleast. When map is finished I will send it here

And in the earlier post I ment thread, not open a new post :p
