THis is ridiculous. Typically, I see at least 2-3 of the high lords of Westeros die in one short conflict. The sheer ludicrousness of Tywin Lannister, an old man who enjoys leading the reserve, dying when challenged in battle is stupid. Playing as Prince of Dorne, one of the sand snakes managed to kill Robb Stark in personal combat! Both in the book series and in real life, the important commanders did not regularly die. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

Go look at the other important conflicts in Westerosi history. Commanders and random lords die all the time. There is no plot armor in the mod.

In his deffense it doesn't make much sense for people leading rears dieing. Er ok....Robb probably would of been slaughtered by a sand snake and if you don't want him to get killed by a sand snake then join/remain neutral.

My point is, I shouldn't have to pick up craven if I don't want to ride ahead for a single challenge. Most people have champions. More generally, commanders don't just go charging ahead, ignoring the actual battle, to have these vainglorious fights. Not the smart ones anyway. And no one would call you craven for not charging ahead to face say, the mountain that rides.

If you run from a fight, people are going to call you craven. That's just the way it is. It's also necessary from a mechanical perspective - otherwise, why would you ever accept a battlefield duel?

If you really find that they occur too frequently, you can edit the probability yourself by opening common/on_actions/00_on_actions.txt and reducing the probability of event 5556000 under on_combat_pulse.

Hmm while I personally have had no problem with the frequency of these events the OP may have a point. It's not suitable for every commander to be in a situation where they fight at the front. Tywin being a good example. Perhaps a 'leads from the rear' trait which drastically reduces the chance of getting personal combat be good.

p.s. Robb Stark did personally lead attacks at least 3 I can think of. The Whispering wood, an assault on a Lannister camp (can't remember the location) and the assault of some castle in the westerlands where he took a wound from a crossbow and was nursed back to health by Jeyne Westerling. Tywin and maybe Mace Tyrell would be good examples though. Ooh and Stannis, contrary to the tv series Davos remarks that he leads from the back at the battle of the blackwater. That's all IIRC ofc.

Sometimes it occurs all too often, sometimes I can fight and win several wars in a row, my ruler leading from the frontlines, without anything happening. If anything I'd tune it up, except I'd probably change my opinion the next time I get three duels in a row.

About Robb, Jaime came quite close to engaging him in personal combat and probably cutting him down, didn't he? Only for bodyguards to get in the way. Which is something the mod already has.

EDIT: Actually, maybe add a decision to auto-assign bodyguards (or a bodyguard at least) from among some fighter trait people at the court?

I'm getting this weirdest sense of deja vu.

Oh, right, we already did that. It reduces the chance of you getting a battlefield duel event by 85%.

oh right soooorry. I didn't think it was in this mod, thought it was just in elder kings, but to be honest I wasn't sure that it wasn't in vanilla. Will you ever be able to forgive my grievous error?

I would also tone it down a bit. I personally cut it in a little over half and the results are a lot better, imo. But I'd also add some (mostly negative) events for rulers who don't lead their armies into battle- the first Crusader King had a few events like this and they worked out very well.

If you've granted someone the honorary title of bodyguard, at the start of a battlefield duel they'll shout "Stand back m'lord! I've got this!" and duel your opponent on the battlefield for you, same as happens with the King on the Iron Throne and his Kingsguard.
