I got a bit out of hand asking others for military access. I'm not absolutely positive, but it seemed to be not one specific country that caused the problem, but the fact that I had an awful lot of them. Once I had passed this magic number, whatever it is, I got a CTD either seemingly out of nowhere or, more quickly, by entering the diplomacy screen.
Loaded the autosave, same thing happened (CTD after a few months or when clicking the diplomacy button). Loaded oldautosave, asked same additional countries for military access, same result. Loaded oldautosave, did NOT ask anyone more for military access, no crash. In other words, I'm pretty sure this is the cause.

This was with 1.08b and the AGCEEP, but no events had anything to do with it so I doubt the latter had any effect.

Test it by editing the save file to reduce the number of MA agreements. If it sorts the problem then you're right, otherwise it's coincidence.

Of course, why didn't I think of that?

Deleted five MAs at random, still ctd.
Deleted all UXX-tag MAs, AGCEEP add-ons, there were five of those too I think, still ctd.
Deleted all remaining MAs, and there were a lot of them. No ctd.

So either one specific MA caused the crash, or the amount of them did. The fact that it still crashed with ten fewer MAs than I started crashing with supports the former theory. Unfortunately, I didn't back up my save file before I started editing it, so the only way to find out for sure is to do a whole lot of editing and a whole lot of ctd-ing, and I'm sorry but that's just not enough fun for me.
But if someone wants the edited, MA-less, working save and try to make it crash again, then sure, I'll send it to you.

How can you be sure that it's the MAs that causes your crashes, and not the mod?

But speaking of MAs, they really ought to expire if 25 years or so... same for TAs.

I can personally almost guarantee that the number of MA's is not a problem (not initself at least).

I believe it was more than a year ago I started using the exquisite technique of getting massive MA before you kick off the BB wars.

In fact, for a handful of late game BB war kickoffs (in the 18th century when admittedly many nations have been eliminated but still a lot of them are left) I have had MA in every single still existing nation in the game. And these games have been eminently playable.

How can you be sure that it's the MAs that causes your crashes, and not the mod?
As I stated above - I loaded my save game, clicked the diplomacy screen (while still paused), and got a CTD. Did that several times, enough to become very frustrating. Then, as suggested, I edited the save file, deleting MAs. Nothing else was different. Removing some MAs didn't help, removing all of them did. And, again, as I stated above, this suggests that it indeed was not the number of MAs that was the problem, but one specific MA that I removed in the last batch as I got rid of all remaining MAs. If you think that it's access through a mod-added country and that this means the mod is causing the trouble, I guess that is a possibility, though I don't see why when MA through lots and lots of other new countries is working just fine. I just can't see how you could screw something like that up with a mod. But then, I'm not a programmer.
That the problem has to do with MAs, however, I have no doubt of what so ever.
