If I, as Spain, annex Portugal before the ToT goes into effect, will it still go through? (and vice versa, not that it'd ever happen?)

Along the same lines, if I annex Portugal or Spain with, say, France, then what happens to the ToT?

Thanks.

I think ToT will occur regardless. The religious events in EU seem to have a count down that occurs no matter what (even though the specific year does vary a little).

I think there was a thread on this a while back, to the effect that there would be no ToT -> therefore no Calvin -> no Trent -> no EoT.

The ToT fails to occur if either Spain or Portugal don't exist, or aren't Catholic. Doesn't have any effect on the other religious events, so far as I know.

If you're playing the most recent IGC this will never happen, because the Moguls are busy colonising stuff right from day 1, and ToT usually occurs around June 1492 - you won't have time to annex them, and certainly no chance of going Protestant. If you're playing the original GC, neither one can be annexed anyway ... but someone did post about the time they took Portugal to the protestant faith, and Tordesillas never occurred.

For some reason the absence of the ToT does seem to prevent the Edict of Tolerence......the first time I saw this come up, that's mostly what the player in question was complaining of, since the Dutch had been revolting for a hundred and fifty years!:D

Well, EoT ends the ToT. Which is quite hard if it doesn't exist :D

True, but the countdown to the Edict is triggered by the Council of Trent, so.........and it lets all Catholics and Protestants have RMs, vassalisations etc.:(

I am playing the most recent IGC, and I did annex Portugal, they attacked me in late 1492 (and I'd been planning on attacking them! How convenient!), and I annexed them a year or so later. So you're saying the Dutch will revolt forever? *ulp* The currently all-Spanish lowlands are in trouble...

Fair enough. It shouldn't do though ... the EoT is a lot more than just nullifying Tordesillas, even if it does come too soon. It should follow the Council of Trent, whatever else is going on.

It is strange that the council of Trent triggers the countdown to it, but it needs the ToT in effect to enact it. But then it is slightly unusual in that it affects items triggered by two different event paths.
