Trading freezes research

I am just starting off a game playing Sweeden. I developed Stock Excange and went about trading it to several nations. After several months I noticed that the research screen was not adding any research even with my slider providing research. I went back and restarted an auto save game and found that whenever I traded it resulted in freezing the research.

It's not freezing it. It still requires you to wait out the time to implement the tech.

However, you get the bonus effects (reduced loan interest, etc) immediately. You just can't research anything new and can't get the secondary inventions until it's done.

If trading tech brings your RPs into the red, and you haven't allocated the needed RPs to the project yet, research is frozen and won't progress any further till you have brought your RP to zero and are generating positive RPs again.
