I really am fond of the new trains. My favorite thing to do with them is to make mining outposts with them. However, they are very clunky and lack a lot of things to make them great.

First is the fact that you can't lay track without having the stations built first. This odd because you can do this with the pipes so I'm sure the code is there. And because of this if you are using the trains for mining and you deplete the mine, you have to destroy the track and lay all of it again to the new location. This is a waste of concrete, and time for needless construction for a minor change in the line.
Second, is there are no through stations. The track is point to point, So you can't say; pick up ore at your mining location, drop off X amount of that ore at one dome and carry on to the next dome to drop off X amount of ore there. And so on.
Third, you cant fine tune the amount of items stored in the station. You can't keep 5 polymers 2 electronics, and 4 machine parts in storage. (this is more of a depot problem but same same.)
Forth, you cant go up and down ramps, or through tunnels. So if your playing on a map with a lot of elevation changes your SOL.
And finally, It's not a network of line. It's a bunch of point to point lines, and not not a dynamic rail system. Sure you have shuttles, but that's a late game tech, and the trains were meant to unclutter the skies and make mass transport of resources cheaper on the Fuel/Water.
