Ok, so first of all, this should be helpful:

It's a quick tutorial.
More information here:http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?589740-Adding-traits&highlight=traits

If you want to check out the traits, their effects and think of new ones, you can use this:
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-CKII-trait-list-and-effects&highlight=traits

And I'd also recommend for you to check out this mod, take a look at the files and stuff, it might give you a better insight in how to work your way into modding - http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...-A-Revamp-Traits-mod.&p=13477532#post13477532

And feel free to share what you're looking to add, I'm very much into that too - as you can see here.

thanks a bunch for the links!

really helpful :]

and at the moment i'm just trying to mess with the available traits and tweak them, some traits, in my opinion should have different effects, and specially the negative ones, they shouldn't be purely negative [again, in my opinion]

what i'm hoping to do - regarding new traits - is to create a system [or attempt to, as i have really limited experience with modding...] where we have the CK1 rival and friends system added, for example:

you're duke of york, the duke of flanders is your buddy, odds are he'd be more willing to help you, or let your son marry his daughter than his enemy/rival, the duke of swabia.

but to be honest i have no idea how to implement this. i think i'll just have to use it in the current relationship system and make people with similar traits get a +5 relationship bonus or something.... or maybe have an event fire where two characters get a "friend" trait that gives them a +20 relationship bonus.

and the other half of my idea is to add some new traits and rename the current ones.

for example: "quick"

i'm changing it to give a:

2 martial

reason: quick seems to be a name more appropriate to someone with good reflexes rather than quick learning.

i'm going to add "adept" [or another name, what the heck] to show that the character is just better at learning or with mental work.

so he gets a:

1 stewardship
1 diplomacy
1 intrigue

again, i don't really have a clear idea about what i'm going to do regarding the new traits, however, the current ones -in my opinion- [i'm making a point of stressing that eh?] could use a little work

Quick is meant to represent someone with above-average intelligence - it's a lesser version of genius, basically. I wouldn't change that. The same for slow and imbecile. I agree about negative traits being too bad, which makes upbringing events choices redundant.
In my games I've already modded some of them (e.g. gregarious gives minus to stewardship while greedy gives a bonus, etc.)

Yes, unfortunately English is a less than perfect language. The term 'quick' in the scope of CK2 is meant 'mentally quick' IE, you're brain comes to correct decisions quicker than others.

In either case, Martial is not your own ability to fling around a sword, axe, spear or otherwise, but instead your ability to inspire troops, come up with clever strategy, out maneuver your enemy or frankly provide solid leadership. Being quick on your feet wouldn't really help that, but being quick of mind would, thus the reason Quick in this sense is correct in giving +1 to all stats.
