Hi,
I found a translation bug that is quite irritating. For example my army stands in Alabama and i get attacked by natives (Eingeborene in german), it says then in a message box or window:

'Feindliche Truppen aus Alabama greifen uns in Eingeborene an.'

This is complete nonsense or badly translated, it must be:

'Feindliche Eingeborene greifen unsere Truppen in Alabama an.'

Also in the same action it is telling that I have won a sea battle in Alabama.

'Wir gewannen eine Seeschlacht (sea battle) gegen Eingeborene in Alabama.'

Well, it looks like every time a coastal province is involved it tells you something about a sea battle regardless whether you are engaged with troops or with ships.
This should be changed depending of which unit (troops or ships) is involved.
You could change this to (for land battle):

'Wir gewannen eine Schlacht gegen Eingeborene in Alabama'

BTW: If you have doubts about translation: I am german.
And the game is great !

i need help with a few words. mostly ones that dictionary.com will not translate.

1. Länthen

2. AUSWÄHLEN

3. tooRÜCK

4. linksstehenden and wählt.

5. geänthet

6. Siegbedingungen

Pls, before you ask look for the correct spelling of the word

1. Länthen - no german word, maybe a name ?

2. AUSWÄHLEN - select

3. tooRÜCK - I think you mean 'zurück', that
means back

4. linksstehenden and wählt. - left standing and select

5. geänthet - that is no german word

6. Siegbedingungen - victory conditions

again, those are not german words. If 'kone' means 'kein' or something else its pure speculation and the other word 'ausschiitzen' sounds like german but is no german word. You have to look for the context when those words get used during a game. So far in my EU they never have appeared.

What a great way to start work on a monday morning. Thanks for the laugh guys! I had no idea, that I wouldn't just get a great game with the German version, but also a translation of Monty Python-like quality :)

Sort of brings the sketch with the Hungarian Translator to mind - or the Worlds Deadliest Joke. Anyway, I'm half German so if there's anything I can help with, let me know here on this thread.

BTW: I would love to see more examples. They are simply too fun to miss :))

Regards,

The Emp.

Uhm... nice province. I
think I'll take it.

I think a translation should be made by someone who knows the game AND whose motherlanguage is the targetlanguage. I have the impression that for the german rulebook at least one of these conditions did not hold. The statements in the rulebook are sometimes quite vague. I think the translator did not know what he/she was translating and did not want to write something wrong.

One of the reasons may have been that the german manual has been translated from the english one and not the original swedish one.
