Hi,
I guess I don't understand the Treaty of Tordesillas, I'm playing Spain in the Grand Campain.
this is my first game. I took the Victory condition 'No England in North America'
Then saw a colony ship heading to Manhatten, I Thought no problem The Treaty is in effect
I just go up the east coast and take the colony, well its 1502 I England is still Cathlic
but I can't take the colony without going to War.
Does the Treaty not apply to North America?
Is there anyway to take/destroy manhatten without losing 4 Stabilization?

The Treaty only allows Spain (and Portugal) to attack specific provinces. If you go to the colonization screen, you will see that the provinces of the Caribbean, central America, and South America outside of Brazil display Spanish shields. These are the provinces claimed by Spain under the Treaty of Tordesillas. However, it doesn't include the most of North America's east coast and interior.

Well yes, but they didn't know that North America was there. The Treaty was signed 1493/1495, so Columbus had just started to discover the Caribean Sea....
I guess NA isn't affected in EU because of the historical colonization attempts of Spain and Portugal...
Ahm, I forgot, the provives around the mexican Gulf, are affected and they are in NA....

Yes, it did (at least I think...I'm beginning to doubt)

But I think it's good that it doesn't apply to North America, that would give Spain and Portugal some really unfair adventages. It also keeps Spain and Portugal from focusing on NA, so that the other power of Europe has a chance too.
