Hey guys,

I usually play US and occasionally I encounter a Kirov cruiser. As you know they have a loads and loads of AA missiles.

A trick I devised to quickly rob Kirovs of their missiles is to simply fire 1 harpoon at a time at them. They will launch enormous amounts of missiles at the harpoon.
Normally when one of your missiles is destroyed the remaining AA missiles will target others. Lacking a second target they'll just drop into the ocean.
With 4-8 harpoon you'll have exhausted the Kirov quite a bit and you can launch your major attack. Done deal ;).

Good luck out there!

lol that's exploiting thanks really useful.

Btw how do you launch 1 Harpoon at a time? Does that minimal weapon use work?

Exactly like JanH said; fire at bearing. I just did it again in one of the Single missions: 4 P8s firing 1 harpoon each at a bearing with just a couple degrees difference. Suddenly a Kirov started returning fire and I launched the remaining 40 harpoons at the group. Resulted in one kill (Admiral something-class) and a whole bunch of angry Russians ;). Second wave of 8 P8s with 88 harpoons finished off the rest.

Ah I see I prefer just shooting everything I got all at once in the hope of overwhelming the Russian battlegroup defenses.

It's . . . . more fun that way :p

I did that here and worked quite well, the two airfields were enough to overwhelm the Russian battlegroup defenses(about 16 planes though there were 2 additonal drones from the carrier)

If the mission hadn't ended abruptly I probably would have sunk all 4 of their ships with just that one well timed concentrated attack from 3 different directions. I don't think the Kirov is equipped with phased array radar, at least not by 2030 in game. But I'm not sure if NWAC simulates different kind of radars or between conventional and phased array. But the Kirov in game seemed unable to shoot at multiple directions at the same time which it shouldn't wihout phased array radar. At least I think the Kirov is not equipped with phased array radar like in US Aegis equipped warships.

Another trick to use up precious SAMs is to fire Tomahawks at the target's bearing. During the Jutland scenario I had two subs with useless Tomahawks so I fired them at the enemy surface group to see what happens. He responded with SAMs like those cruise missiles where a menace.

A good tool of deception if you don't have airfields to knock out and want to make the enemy flip out before you actually start using the good stuff.
