I have a question about collapsing a 3D Model in 3Ds Max.

skylineswiki.com says...
"It is important for the model to be one single object with no hierarchy. So make sure to collapse the hierarchy in 3DS Max for example. It is also important for the model to use a single material, otherwise it will be split in sub-meshes and will fail to display parts of it."

I know that I need to go to Utilities > Select All Meshes > and Collapse into Single Object. When I do this however, it removes all my materials and makes the whole object one solid color. How can I collapse all meshes into one object and still keep where the textures need to remain? Or am I doing it wrong completely?

This may be why it says to use a single material for the object, if so.. What must I do to make all my materials into a single material file?

Thanks

You can't collapse all your object into one and keep all the materials. You need to use a method of texturing called uvmapping.

Your whole object must be textured using only ONE pic. The object must be prepared so the game knows where to put what.

You'll have to google for some tutorials.
