Trouble installing the game

Got the game today, (strategy pack 6) and started installing it, at 22% the installation stopped and after nothing happening for a loooooong time I took the cd out. After that the setup would not do a repair or uninstall (actually it does, it alst about one secon, says it`s finished, and nothing changed) and after deleting the EU II keys from the registry and follwing the complete uninstall guide on this forum it remained this way all the same, actually leaving me with a game which i can not install, despite all parts of the former intallation attempt beeing deleted.

My system:

Pentium IV 2600Mhz
ATI Radeon 9500 (i believe)
1024 Mb RAM
Win XP Service Pack 2

Why exactly can you not install it now? Any errors or messages?

Sounds like the CD may be bad, can you try it on another machine?

Hmm, i managed to install it onto another pc, then copied the files into an folder at my computer. Now the game loads, but if i start any campaign, it has an ctd at the point when it tries to load the scenario... What may cause this?

edit: is have installed AGCEEP 1.51 deluxe over an copy which now starts the scenarios, but now there are no armies or fleets, neither can you build them...

What may cause this?

Well clearly there is a problem with this machine, or with the EU2 installation on it. I don't see any value in trying to get it going by manually copying files or applying mods.

I've never had a case where a full uninstall didn't work, I can only guess you overlooked some file, directory, or registry entry somewhere. Try searching the whole registry for "europa", "universalis", "EU2", AND "paradox".

I now tried it on four different computers, always the same problem (but fortunately no trouble installing it anymore). I looked for all the words in the registry, but it simlpy does not work. Another odd detail i found: the registry entry alwasy says version 1.05, yet the game states it is 1.08, has this something to say? /btw, it is able to load the tutorials

Is the version on the CD 1.05? Are you installing that then 1.08, or something?

And I'd still like to know what exactly happens when it fails to install.

well, the installation problem only occured on one (my) computer, not on anyone elses, but on all computers the game fails to start any campaign, it starts loading, but at the point where it says: loading scenario an unexplained ctd occures. And after installing the blank game it says 1.05 in registry but 1.08 in the game`s main menu. And despite failing to load any scenario the game can load the tutorials.

(altough it obviously does not matter that much anymore: as it first failed to install it simply did not continue at 22% of the installation, it remained there for a long time (30 minutes os somerhing like this) and this was the time i aborted, uninstalled and tried to reinstall).

In the light of that, I still believe you have a faulty CD. BTW have you tried installing 1.09 on top of it on a machine where you can at least get it installed? Maybe any faulty files will get overwritten.

And what exactly happens when you clean up the registry, all the files and directories, and try again on that first machine?

installing 1.09 did not do anything besides creating a new entry in the registry. for this version number (but it realy changes nothing beside the version number in the main menue and registry)


After cleaning up, it only grants you to deinstall or reinstall, but regardless of your choice it does not do anything (it starts, stays at 0%, waits 30 seconds and then says its finished, but nothing changed. besides a new registry entry if you have choosen reinstall)

You'd need to contact the vendor or publisher, I guess. Was it Paradox who published the strategy pack? If not contact the actual publisher (it will be on the box) otherwise someone at PI; I guess Flori.
