Background: I tend to play modded MP games with some friends, syncinc up to have same checksums used to be somewhat easy, using a tool named Irony mod manager.
Steam usually has trouble updating the mods however, so we all do a trick of unsubscribing and immediately subscribing to a collection of mods to force steam to recheck any outdated mods, that makes it easy to sync up everything.
If we don't do this step chances are that some mod would not update and end up in a different checksun, causing headaches.

The problem: Some days ago, Steam somehow updated and now somehow immediately yeets the workshop mods as soon as I click unsubscribe instead of the previous behaviour of waiting a bit.
This is an issue because waiting to download +20 Gb of material would add a lot of time before a game and it does not even guarantee there's not going to be further issues with the decryptors or other hijinks nor that not any other mod would have updated in the meantime

So I have tried another methods to sync up like click reload installed mods on the launcher or deleting some cache files and still we get different checksum, so I'm wondering if anyone have a more direct method to force mods to update to be in line, thanks.

Oky seems that with my friend we discovered that having the game open while unsubscribing and resubscribing prevents Steam from yeeting the mods, but we still have not found a way to sync up as of today.

First check you can play MP with no mods at all enabled.

If so, this is a mod issue. All enable ONE mod only, and test. If okay, enable one more and test ... etc. That way you'll soon pin down the problem, I am sure.

I tried that, I get same checksum in vanilla but it only takes one mod for me to have different checksum, I did check with others friends and they get the same checksum but mine is always different.
I tried solutions in this thread but still no biggie. This all started when Steam wiped the workshop folder so I am not sure how to proceed as I have no ideas.

What I do know that's an issue on my end and it's any mod, not any particular one.

Note you always need to read the checksum in the main menu or MP lobby, the one in the launcher is not a good indicate in this case - it shows what it ought to be, not what it is.

If you have the same checksum with ALL mods disabled, can you then actually play MP okay like that?

Nono, with only one mod the checksum I get it's different than of my friends, it's not always the same if I change parameters like what mod or order. Only vanilla I get the same because there's no mods loaded.

I understand that, my question was whether you could actually play MP in vanilla too?

Yes I could.

I have an update; I managed to fix the issue doing the following:
Manually deleting every mod in the workshop folder
Then verifying cache.

Something was borked there but that worked for me
