Troubles with localization

I'm trying to make a traits extension mod for stellaris, and I've got the traits working and the icons working, but I can't seem to get the names and descriptions working right. I've read that I need to make a localization file, and I did, using the same format as the base game, in the same file tree, but it doesn't seem to do anything, the trait names and descriptions are still trait_desc and trait_name... Anyone have any advice for a budding stellaris modder?

Remember to convert it to UTF-8-BOM!!! Notepad++ automatically sets it to UTF-8. Go to Encoding and then choose UTF-8-BOM.

And then: File -> Save As -> choose YAML

This is my code, and it is definetly encoded correctly, I just checked. It is also the correct file type.

What's the name of your localisation file? You can name it anything you want but it has to have
_l_english
behind it

like so:

mymodlocalisation_l_english.yml

if it is correct can you post the error log?

I actually had a bit of trouble with the localisation strings. It's largely an issue with Notepad++ and how it handles saves and formatting. To fix the saving for YAML in N++, go to:
Settings -> Preferences -> New Document - then make sure the UTF-8 save option is chosen - NOT UTF-8 without BOM.
Settings -> Preferences -> Tab Settings - then scroll down and select the YAML option.

If you want to go full hog with YAML you can also have the auto formatting in YAML:
Settings -> Style Configurator - then select YAML in the leftmost list.

Should also be able to copy an existing one from the game and rename it + delete the contents and put in your own. That way it has the exact same settings the game uses. That's how I do it anyway.

Yeah that's what I did too. On a side note, I had forgotten the "_l_" in front of my "english" in the filename. Putting that in there fixed it, thanks!
