I was looking for basically the same thing and I started another thread at almost the same time as yours. I was made aware of a mod called the Building Eyedropper Tool. Like me, it's probably not the exact thing you're looking for, but it's closer than anything else I've found so far.

I hope it's helpful. I just grabbed it and am going to try it out and see how it works shortly.

Thanks Year I spotted the eye dropper too, works well. But as you say not quite what I am looking for. As you are not able to copy plobs as the one individual building per city stands.

I have this question the other way around.

So i would like to use the asset editor to load a unique building from the workshop (with 4x4 ground or less) and to save it as a growable
because i have some that would fit in the plopable buildings of offices e.g. very well. This would be for own use only of course.

I thought it should actually be possible but couldnt figure out how so far (i dont have much experience with the asset editor)

I'm really hoping the devs release something that allows for quickly and easily making any asset ploppable without having to turn it into a park. Or if it's a mod, that would be perfectly fine too, just as long as it works.

Right now I have Five Guys Burgers buildings popping up everywhere. I like the building and I like the sense of realism it adds having real-life businesses show up, but they're showing up side by side all over the place. One strip of commercial zones I counted six or seven of them within a two-block stretch.

That's just one of many examples why it would be incredibly helpful to be able to manually plop any building you want. You could still zone wherever you want and let things grow as they normally do, but you can also take a greater role in really sculpting the block around those things.
