Installed the Mod

Sorry I have not posted too much lately, just got back from a two-week trip to Greece. Anyway,

I installed Omega's most recent version of the mod a couple of nights ago and didn't have any problems with it. No bugs, no crashes. The only issues I have with it so far are purely aesthetic; grammar mistakes (some of which are actually Paradox' fault, not Omega's), pictures that could have been cropped better, backgrounds, etc. One thing I am wondering about, though, is how we can get histories for countries to appear in the game lobby. I'd be happy to draft up some fictional histories for that very purpose... All in all, great work on the mod, Omega.

We lucky folks in the states had the book on shelves Aug 9...lucky dogs, ain't we?

has that URL been posted yet? not to put any undue pressure on you but WHERE IS IT? :D

btw thanx to omega and everyone else who've worked on this mod, i'm anxious to give it a whirl. Had i known about it earlier, i would've offered my event-making skills. Since this is only a beta, i think i will. Any help needed with events, let me know. Sorry the help is belated, but i'll do whatever i can.

InVert

Not to hijack this thread but I have a question for Invert - Is your Jumpstarting AAR Dead? Last saw you post there over TWO months ago? :(

couple of other questions: Whats up with colon? Not only does it have 100 ICs for columbia, but it also takes 3 years to march into from and adjacent provence

I've played through this mod two times now, and I've noticed a couple of things that could use some improvments.

I don't remember Turtledove discussing Africa too much, but one would assume that after a French-UK defeat in the Great War, they would have lost some of their colonies. Specifically France should have lost Morocco, Tunisia and possibly some of their costal African colonies. Morocco especially was a bone of contention just prior to the war.

I also noticed that the war between the US and the CS ends fairly quickly. I haven't got to Drive to the East yet, but I assume that the war doesn't end by 1942 with the CSA conquering both the Eastern and Western halves of the US (and a fully conquered Canada to boot). Perhaps a Canadian revolt could be a event? Or some more 'magically appearing' US divisions to shore up their defenses, sort of like the divisons given to the UK upon an Irish or Norwegian invasion? Just a thought. If the book does have such a CSA victory that quickly please disregard this.

Other than that I'm loving this kick-arse mod! Well done!

Dont worry my friend, your concerns have been delt with in my version of the mod. Thats why its taking a bit longer. But I think the wait will be worth it...

Im still working on events, the new mod is not too far away!

TO ALL PATRONS: Could still use the assistance of a scenariotext.CSV wizz-kid...

Brits Land Tech

I was wondinring if it was just me or do the Brits have both blitz and the original Brits tech? I got to 43 bofore figuring it out.

Omgea i just got back, GREAT JOB
minor bugs- austria has no tech teams, the bef does not move from its original location, CS gov is non-existant and if a human doesnt play as them they usualy leave the alliance before the end of january, and i think that GER has a bit much of russia, and other minor bugs that we can fix in the next version
i hope i dont sound like a broken down record but great job, and enjoy your time off

Ok, then I would suggest the following:
Jugoslav Aviatsionnyi Korpus Should be JKRV Vazduhoplovni Puk or Lovcaki Puk (Fighter), Bombarderski Puk (Bomber), Transportni Puk(Transport).

Kraljevska Jugoslavenska RM Should be Jugoslovenska Ratna Mornarica

Drive to the East spoilers

Okay, here's what I remember from reading Drive to the East, so I'll leave enough space. I'll spoiler space and inviso-text. Keep in mind the inviso-text will likely show if your page colors are set different or if this' quoted.

Okay, hopefully that's enough space, here we go:

Sam Carsten's now the Captain of his own ship (destroyer/escort class) operating in the Atlantic.

The US eventually begins to make more progress into Utah when the Mormons develop suicide bombing which the negroes in South also begin to use.

Moss escaped a CS prison camp and is now with a small negro rebellion group (militia, possibly?).

After the CS pull their version of Barabosa and the US doesn't cave, they bomb the Gray House and President Al Smith is killed and VP Lafayatte (not sure?) takes over.

The CS finally begins work on their atomic project located near Virginia but the US has made more progress and the Germans moreso than the US thanks to an absent minded professor named Einstein working on the German project (tech team?).

Hawaii/Sandwich Islands are cut off from supplies for awhile and Japan tries time and again to bomb the island but to no avail before merchant cruisers adapted as carriers are able to make headway and can better defend Hawaii.

The drive to the east the title describes is actually the CS push from Iowa to the ironworks in Pittsburgh which while making it to Pittsburgh is cut off thanks to Morrel and his ex-gunner Pound's work with others that leave the CS army isolated in Pittsburgh. The CS manages to get Patton out of the city, though.

On the flipside, the US counteroffensive into Virginia stalls heavily due to CS fortifications and General Dowling is moved from that front to a minor front in Texas in an attempt to pull forces there from the CS' eastern push. Though it appears they fail to pull anyone from the CS' push, Dowling manages to make decent headway and is near or in Lubbock, TX by the end of the book, about a province away I'd guess from the CS' largest detention/death camp (possibly represented as large victory points?).

Canada does up and revolt thanks to the CS getting Churchill to roust the Canadians to fight. The Republic of Quebec occupation, not being that good of an army as the US, are pushed back to Quebec.

The French and English offensive bogs down in Germany, allowing them time to regroup from losses taken at the hands of the F/E blitzkrieg.

Lastly, the CS is starting to feel the pinch and all but demands Mexico give them 4-6 regiments (?) of men that end up being of substandard condition compared to the CS army. They at first have them on the front, but eventually the CS smartens up and begins to use them to secure up the homefront and uses those of their forces on the homefront in the war itself.

Oh, and one final note, it sounds like there're two other novels coming in the series.

I thought omega was 'out of the loop' for the forseeable future?

Series set after the war? I havent heard anything about that...have you got a link?

BTW, my version of the mod (lets call it Mark II, just to differentiate) is almost ready for testing. I pretty much just have to write a read-me. I hope youd like to test it...spot any bugs I have missed etc etc.

The only thing that is still bugging me is the damn nation descriptions...its really ruining what I think is a damn good mod!

I was wondering if you guys were possibly going to be doing any events that weren't in the series but could be possible extrapolations to enhance the mod besides what's been in the book? Such as the involvement of Spain or Portugal, etc. While they wouldn't be direct from the book, it'd be nice for those of us who're up to date with the book to be surprised. :D It'd make the gaming experience more enjoyable if we didn't know exactly what was going to happen next and could think on our toes rather than moving in advance of things to make sure they don't happen.

Check a couple of pages back in this thread.

There is a new version being tested as we speak which should be ready for release soon. So watch this space and tell your mates! ;)
