Anyone know where to look to resolve the canal issue?

Also, amazon has put back DTTE by 2 months !!!

If its possible, we ought to copy the code that would allow only Columbia to use the channel, however I'm not sure where that code is within the game.

Also, another thought just occured to me... would Liberia exist as a country in this universe? And what about victory point distributions for American cities?

In How Few Remain, Frederick Douglas' son suggests that he and his family move to Liberia, Frederick rejects this idea.

Hey, I just stumbled across this forum last night, because it had occured to me as well that Hearts of Iron 2 would be a great platform for a mod for Turtledove's Settling Accounts series. I was ecstatic to see that other players had thought the same thing... I've read and loved the entire series so far, and am an avid HoI2 player, so I'd be happy to help in any way possible to this project -- even though as I understand it (having read all of the posts thus far) the project is to be completed the day after tomorrow... However, I did have some questions as to how the story was handled so far in the mod;

1. Is Canada (with the exception of Quebec) directly under US control?
2. Who replaces Kaiser Wilhem II when he dies in 1941?
3. What portraits are being used to represent Confederate barrels and fighters (namely, the fearsome Mule) and US fighters that did not exist in our history?
4. Will there be a non-Freedom Party Confederacy (represented by the blue-on-red flag) that can be created if the US player annexes and then releases the Freedom Party CSA?
5. I do not recall reading that the US flag has an eagle in place of the stars -- I recall hearing references to the stars-and-stripes and a mention somewhere that the CSA's states were still represented as stars well after the War of Secession. I do recall hearing, though, that the US military insignia for aircraft is an eagle with crossed sabers in its talons.
6. Italian history ought to be very similar in this world as it is to ours; unless its otherwise stated by Turtledove, Benito Mussolini should still be around, as Italy wasn't as severely punished as Germany and Austria at the end of World War I in our history, and definately would not be in Turtledove's... this point is really open to debate, however.
7. Is Irving Morrel going to be an assignable US military commander?

I realize its somewhat awkard to waltz in here with these points, but I hope someone can help me out with these questions, I would very much appreciate it. And as far as help goes, I can quickly whip up a unique Featherston portrait that would fit in well with the feel of the game, as well as an Al Smith portrait for the states... in addition to the Freedom Party flag, CS flag, Freedom party battle flag (includes gold eagle and word "freedom") in addition to a 35-star US flag and eagle w/ crossed-sabers US flag.

Glad to know you guys have worked hard on this.

its no problem, glad you're concerned
1-yes
2-King Freidrich Wilhelm V of Prussia (Kaiser Freidrich I of Germany)
3-you'll find out
4-yes
5-its a 35 star flag, the battle flag is an eagle with sabers
6-we're guessing its benito
7-yes
i'm pretty sure omega's got everything together, hes just having trouble packaging it

I looked in the province CSV, but the info in there is quite big for each province and I didnt see anything that pointed to a 'conditions for travel in canals' section... if you get what I mean..?

But alas, Im not even partially sure if Im lookin in the right place!

hmmm this is disconcerting(big word bonus :D ) maybe we should ask an admin

Also, I take it there isn't any way to reshape the map itself to remove the canal section of panama for purely visual reasons (if we don't figure out how to prevent ships from moving through in the code, they still could despite what it looks like)... I was thinking that some of the provinces in the continental US and Mexico -- aren't shaped perfectly for the purposes of showing different states or divisions of states, specifically Northern Virginia for being part of West Virginia at the start of WWII and Chihuahua/Sonora. I'm new to editing HoI2/Euopra or any of Paradox' games, so forgive me if I come up with plainly impossible ideas.

no its hardcoded, and as for regions we can rearrange them

Does anyone know how to alter the nation descriptions?

Coz each nation will need a new 'history'...yet I cant get any nation to show anything but the generic national description...

I have messed about loads with the scenariotext.CSV yet I cant seem to get it too work!!!

And as for the canal.... I would think messing with the map will be 1) a lot or work and 2) possibly a problem when it comes to running other scenarios (I would imagine anyway)

Went to Texas for 3 days which proved to be a Godsend...

As for ruining the general HoI2 game, this is in it's own separate folder which allows me to mod the folder w/o having to do everything again (everything I leave out of the mod reverts back to the main HoI2 folder).

Text has been funny for me too, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, so I like to use already existing text for an AF Non-existant country, mod that, and just link over.

As for the frakking panama canal, I've even tried to use the Victoria description of the province with no change BUT I'll try to use some of the advice. Normal provinces: the territory wont match up exactly as the book's map, leaving modding HoI2 for AF far from perfect but I do not want to get into screwing the map up.

Politiczei, Quebec is a US puppet which works very nicely as if the CS DoW the US, it still won't enter the war but the US can use it's assests. If you want Politiczei, I'll take a look at any Featherson pic u have and compare it to the one I'm using to see which is better. Also Liberia was created before the War Between the States.

And finally, I just checked Amazon and it's still coming out August 9th Enterprize... Holy Schitzner- Walmart is saying that they have it in stock and can ship it express by Aug 2nd... infact it's a bit skitzo on what the release date is (Ima go bookshopping this Tuesday to be careful).

Oh and I can package it through a ZIP but a friend and I agree the game is diminished if the panama canal is there for it really does a dis-service for the US gameplaying.

There has really got to be a solution to the text problem...

Every battle scenario has scenario specific nation text, so it must be do-able.

You think a PM to johan might help? I dont know of any other developers who frequent the boards...ideas?

That said, I havent seen johan here in ages either...

Regarding the canal again.

I was just looking in the adj.dfs file (or something like that anyway)there is a bunch of river and canal info there...

Well I could have the panama canal block ships like the Sea of Manamar (sp) for the Ottoman Empire BUT that's a quick fix that would be invalidated if the US were to annex that part from columbia.

I think that woulld be the best bet. AI USA tends to not attack other american nations plus (hopefully) a human player wont do anything as gamey..

If you know how to mess with the canals and stuff, could you let us know?

Hey Omega when/if you do figure out how to do that, would you mind posting the solution in the topic I have about doing just that same thing to the Suez and Panama canal?

Would it be possible to have the entire world visible and black out (like the smaller scenarios in HoI2, e.g. the Rommell one) the canal (not the land province, the tiny sea province)? And if so, would that make it so you couldn't navigate through it?

I could blank out the world except for the North American continent but then the rest of the world war would (and my hard work in getting it modded) would be a waste.

I'll try to have something tonight for at least blocking the panama canal for ship use if I can't physcially block it.

omega i've just put out an apb for help with the canal

Blocking the Panama canal

Only one condition must be satisfied:
~ Be at war with who ever owns/controls it.

Place Panama with canal only. Clear diplomacy in her AI file, add 'I hate the world' that is; combat = { 'here list every country in the game with 250.

Give her maybe 1 IC's and lock about five modern mountain divisions with 10 coastal fortress and 10 land fortress. She will declare war on everyone and everyone will not cross the canal or dare try take it. And do not start the scenario with Panama at war, for she will make peace. Start at peace and she will war with all. Also make sure DOW are free in the diplomacy file. (In RISK_Mod I modifies this so I do not remember vanilla settings)

Sincerely,
Yukala
