This game looks like it was made in 2001, not 2011 , no offence. It is visually unappealing

I hope you guys step up your game a little bit

In your opinion, I quite like the way the game is. I'm not buying it to look at pretty ships, I'm buying it for naval strategy, the ship graphics are great for a naval RTS.

The audience this game is aimed at, in my opinion, don't care much about having massively complex graphics for what is ultimately a virtual boat. Harpoon hasn't been played since 1989 for its graphics, has it?

The Battles in Empire Total War looks better

It's also a completely different genre of game is it not?

But ETW is much older and you must say the battles looked very very nice

The main thing to watch in NWAC isn't the graphics for the ships, they're not even needed. ETW had thousands of men on a field in a relatively tiny area and you had no other way of controlling them other than clicking on pretty little hills and horses where as this game is strategic, imagine it as a much more animated campaign map in ETW. If you want to compare properly, the ETW naval warfare was awful.

Can't wait to blow something up like that. ;-)

This is mainly a strategy game, those 3D thingies will only appear in the small window at the bottom to give you a graphic depiction of what your symbols of ships are actually doing. There's no need to make it more advanced than it's now, it'd even be bad, adding nothing to game's depth but slowing it down and eating up a bigger chunk of the budget.

(and when I wrote all that, I noticed he got himself banned so he won't read it anyway...)

I think he must have done something else, elsewhere. But I'm too lazy to look and I don't even remember how to search for person's posts in here.

Either case, I like those models and the game behind them seems to be shaping up very nicely. No reason to complain.

Come on folks, its in beta!

And as others have said, I'm buying it for strategy, not to look at pretty graphics.

(Although pretty graphics are a plus, don't get me wrong)

I have been looking forward to this game since I first heard about it. I didn’t put too much faith into its release, (crossed my fingers and prayed heavily for it) but it looks like things are really coming along.

I spent last weekend reading this entire forum about this game to the point I attempted to play Harpoon 3 again (been year or so since I purchased and played the last failed release), which did nothing but make me yearn more for this game. The years I have invested in the Harpoon series are too many to count, and playing it again did nothing but reinforce why I quit playing it, always buggy and the last release was the worst.

I didn’t/don’t mind playing with the icons, (I have to admit, I will be looking forward to the eye candy in this game) but I loved the real time / real world naval warfare nature of the game. Kudos to everyone for sticking with it and plugging away at it. I have to admit, I am getting rather antsy for its release, but they say good things come to those who wait, unless its Harpoon, which it should have been released as, just wait to see what aggravating bugs we have for you in this release.

BTW, (I didn't see where this was requested) I was wondering, if in the future (not worth delaying the initial release of course), could we please have the ability to rescue our downed pilots (chopper/ship) and possilby have the ability for ship/ships to stop and pick up sailors form sunkin ships? It doesn't have to be modeled 100% acurate (take sunkin ships crew size into account), but a rescue of a sunkin ships crew should take a while depending on the # of ships involved in the rescue. I am a good enough "armchair" tactician that would be able and willing to tackle this, and I personally think its the key difference (in this style of game) between a commander and a politician.

Hello and welcome skfsteveskf (curious how you pronounce that!)

Yeah, it's definitely happening! Lots of work to get from a so-so working game to a real one, but it's coming along.

Pilot and crew rescue is certainly something that would be interesting to add in the future. It was on the block from the start, but to get something finished there has to be a grueling "kill your darlings" process in any development project.
