Hello everyone. I've had CiM for about a year and am very happy with it. However, I have two tech questions:
1. I've never gotten very good performance out of the game. It runs, with no crashes, but it lags to high heaven even on low settings.
Computer Specs:
64 bit Windows 7 Persario CQ61 Notebook PC
AMD Athlon II Dual-Core M320 2.10 GHz
ATI M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200

2. I no longer buy products from steam (I don't trust their transactions), so now I buy from amazon. However, my copy of CiM was purchased on steam, and I'd like to try some of the DLC's. Can DLC's purchased from amazon run on the steam version of Cities in Motion?

Right click on "Computer", choose "Properties".
Click on "Windows experience index"
Click on "View and print detailed performane and system information"
Under "Graphics" you should see "Dedicated graphics memory".

Your graphic card is below the minimum requirements of the game.
Put all graphic options to minimum, this is the best you can get.

I think you are stuck on Steam, just like me.
I also wonder about their transactions. I think the best we can do is to remove the credit card info from Steam and type it every single time we need to buy something. Or use PayPal.

I don't remember which retailer it is, but I remember one that you can buy the DLC and install it on a steam copy.
Could be Impulse or GamersGate, but you sould verify it before buying.

Can't say ive ever had any trouble with making transactions through Steam, it seems to function just as well as any other online store. As for purchasing the DLC elsewhere, i can't see how there would be any issues since each comes as its own self-contained .gs file. The only thing is it won't get automatically updated with any patches (like the recent fix for one of the DLC trams).

I don't know if it's possible in Brazil, but you can have Visa Electron account. On it, there is only amount of money, which you transfer from your main bank account, so only that amount is comprimised.

@giladteller, greenmangaming.co.uk has this option, but only for US-cities DLC.

Steam was recently hacked and a file containing users accounts, passwords and credit card information was stolen.

That is true. As long is just a gs file, it's no problem at all.

Never heard of it. For me credit card is the worst payment method security wise. If the VISA servers needs to be online so the store can check if the number is valid, why would be so difficult to add a password? Anybody with numbers can buy. I don't see how that still exist in a world where even password is not enough to protect you online. I have a token for Gmail and not even password for credit card?

The credit card and billing data was encrypted and the file was a backup from 2004-2008 (i dont know about you, but i wasn't using Steam back then and my credit/debit card from that period has long since expired). It did not contain passwords. I agree the hacking was a serious incident but i would argue that having being the victim of such an attack, Steam (and indeed Sony who suffered a similar incident) is now much safer. Once bitten, twice shy as the saying goes.
