Hey Gang,

I took a 2 year Leave of Absence from the game, but am now back. . . hoping for a fresher/clarification on a couple of things, please!

I typically play Germany, so:
  1. When should I typically switch from Civ to MIL factory construction?
  2. Realistically how many MIL should I have by June 1939?
  3. Are Artillary specific divisions worth making?
  4. Can you mix Army Corps, like in Real life?
    1. Most Panzer Corps consisted of
      1. 2 Panzer Divisions
      2. 2 Infanrty/MOT Divisions
  5. Does it matter if you have 3-4 Field Marshalls with 45-60 divisions each, or 7-8 Field Marshalls with 20-30 divisions each?
  6. Is it still advantages to attach CAS to Divisions, and let Bombers, and fighters roam the area?
  7. What is the current recommended size of a U-boat squadron?
Thank you.

Reactions:
1. Typically around June 1937-Jan 1st 1938
2. in a normal build with no dockyards, just civs, mills, then refineries (along with a few infrastructure and 1-2 expiremental facilities) I have 102 Military factories in Sep 1939, just before I invade Poland.
3. No. The most line artillery you should put in your division is 2 for a big division like 30-40w, 0-1 for an average combat width like 18-21.
4. There is no corps, just Battalions, then Divisions. You can design your Panzer division to have both medium tanks and motorized infantry in it, then put those divisions underneath a General along with other Purely motorized infantry divisions.
5. Generals should only have 24 divisions assigned to them as going over that applies penalties (unless you are trying to get the Skilled Staffer trait on that General). Field Marshalls should only have 5 generals assigned to them max. If you use a field Marshall as a General, then still only 24 divisions.
6. It's better to micro the CAS yourself as sometimes the CAS won't follow your divisions that closely, or the small airframes will attack over really large airzones in the soviet union where they don't have range, instead of letting your Tac bombers do that support since they have more range.
7. 8-10 Uboats works for me typically, unsure if theres a better composition.

To clarify, you recommend maxing out the unit alottment for Generals and Field Marshalls? To clarify, I was thinking is it better to have 3-4 field Marshalls each with 3-4 Generals consisting of 15-20 divisions, or 7-8 Field Marshalls each with 3-4 Generals and, say 10 divisions? Or does it not matter for adaptability, firepower, promotions, and speed of game?

It doesn't matter for your average German game, and in fact its better to use less field marshalls because that means the few field marshalls you have gain levels quicker, meaning higher bonus' from level 6+ field marshalls instead of having a bunch of level 4 or level 3 field marshalls.

Additionaly, during the Spanish Civil War the best thing you can do is grind out a general with the "Organizer" trait so you can then make him a Field Marshall with Logistics Wizard- and then you put the max amount of Generals under him as possible to fully make use of that -15% supply trait.

But if you really want to run 7-8 field marshalls with 3-4 generals each, and each general only having about 10 divisions, go right ahead. You'll still win since you're playing Germany, and you'll have alot more fun playing the way you want to!

Thanks Stormsand9!! You know how it goes - see a documentary on Bourbarassa and wonder if historical would work in hoi4!!! LOL
