I thought this may be pertinent to NWAC and the aircraft the UK will operate in game. The British MoD is actively considering the purchase of 5x P8 Poseidon aircraft to fill the "capability gap" now left in the UK's defences by the scrapping/cancellation of the Nimrod project. According to the SSH some MOD staff are now out in the USA on familiarisation/evaluation training.

Rumour is also mounting that the UK will be looking into a form of UAV for the sub hunting role, but the P-8 is being touted as the most realistic option by people in defence circles.

I thought that the nimrods were already built and the crew near enough trained, why did they scrap them?

Programme wasn't finished and would have been a money blackhole. We're relying on frigates atm for the capability but P-8s will be in post 2015.

The P-8s rock. A good choice I think! And it makes it easier for us since we already have it :D

Good to hear, the MoD have set aside £1 billion for the purchase of the P-8s and they'll be navy operated as opposed to RAF this time. 5 looks like the number required, hope to see them in game! :)

Ive read up, 3 out of 11 nimrods were built and they were only cut to save fuel, crew, maintainace ect ect. Which is a shame because we spent £4.1bn on them. The crews were trained already on the nimrod mra1's so i can see how we saved money. But its done now :-(

The final costs would have likely been much higher, it was a bad idea to rebuild the Nimrod MR2.

just a quick question does anyone know if the p-3 will still be in naval war arctic circle? and Boeing is a amazing aircraft company just throwing it out there!
We'll probably include the Orion as well in NWAC, as even if the Poseidon takes over its US Navy duties, many countries still rely on the P-3 (and in a war, you'll quickly run short on the most modern stuff and rely on bringing back some old workhorses).

It really is a great aircraft, and I remember it fondly from Harpoon back then!

Bring back the old stuff?
What like type 23 frigates?

We still have to keep within budget, so that is mainly for aircraft. That is, we both have the F-35 and the Super Hornet. And we have the Sukhoi FAK PA as well as the MiG-29K. And, possibly, both the Poseidon and the Orion.

Extending well beyond the current unit count will have to be for an expansion/DLC thingie, which mostly depends on all you guys buying the game, and getting all your friends, family, coworkers and acquaintances to buy it :D

Perhaps a cost effective solution for the Royal Navy would be to skip forward to 2035 with their fleet. For example, by then all Type 23 frigates will have been removed from service meaning you can give the UK one frigate class, the Type 26, meaning no extra model.

Right. The important thing is that the Royal Navy has a full range of surface vessels in the game, and they do.

I eagerly await this game Mr JanH! :p

Dumping MRA.4 was just a mistake. It picked up a lot of bad press with 'apparent' faults due to the major problems with the crash that occured with Nimrod.... That crash only occured because of using certain pieces of kit not recommended to be used with AARing yet the RAF did it anyway.

I also find it funny that the RAF offered up BOTH harrier AND Nimrod to the cut but not anything significant of their assets. No Typhoon numbers and No Tornado numbers.... Yet due to the smaller savings of Harrier over Tornado we ended up with additional cuts anyway. And as Libya is showing a LESS flexible aircraft.

Nimrod was already having 3 of the aircraft built... For the money the government has set aside we could have got our expected order and some more....

So all this has done is result in a bigger loss of money. WHile MRA.4 made some bad decisions the government made a monumental ***** up in not just getting the project completed and done.
