OK, I've finally plucked up the courage to come clean about my cheating. Although it'll probablly destroy my chances of getting into a game with anyone, I have to let it be known so it can be fixed.

Basically, if you right click a IC slider, it locks it in place. So if you have, let's say, 500 IC, you can lock all IC sliders EXCEPT for one. The reason you have to leave one unlocked is to allow you to move the others, as they cannot all be locked. Here is an example:

However, this also means more resources are needed:

OK, my Aussie group, you were all right. I cheated, and it was wrong, and not fair. I apologise to you guys for being a jerk. I just hope you can forgive me, and allow me back in. I now realise that it is a complete waste of time to cheat, and I gaurantee that it will not happen again.

Pictures dont load.

Omni - thanks for the post. I'll pass this message onto the rest of the guys to let them know.

No hard feelings on my side.

Courage is a rare commodity, even if it takes time to gather.

Thankyou Omni. You should have done this earlier and it would have averted alot of what had happened. Its good you have to courage to admit your mistakes, and thats an important lesson to becoming a good player and a good sport. Im sure we will discuss this tonight at our session.

jg, thought about unbanning me yet?

I was just waiting to hear back from Gringo, there are only 2 of us on a 7 person committee at the moment, but it wasn't my decision alone. So in short, you should be unbanned now.

Heck, that exploit has been around forever. Thought you had discovered a new one. There are some quirks to this exploit for it work properly and I'm not going to explain them since I prefer that this get fixed and quietly go away.

Post as a bug in the Bug forum

Bluestew,

Since you know the "quirks" please post a complete explanation in the bug forum so that Paradox may fix this.

And this is not an exploit, more like a "cheat" really when used in MP, because it is not visible to the other players and is clearly a loophole in the programming.

Till this is fixed MP players will have to take random samples of saves to check that no one has been tempted to use this "trick".

Tomar,

I'm a beta for HOI. Paradox is aware of this loophole. They are busy on other projects atm, so repairs and enhancements to HOI will have to wait.

My posting exactly how to make this work would probably just entice more people to try and use it in MP games. That would be bad. Using it correctly requires a great deal of manipulation with the sliders. As Omni explained, used correctly it does provide additional IC's at the cost of additional resources. Occassionally looking at a save file might give you a hint that someone was using this technique, but the best way to combat cheaters is to play with a familiar group of players who have earned each other's trust.

Bluestew,

Was not aware that you were HOI beta... As long as Paradox are aware, thats fine..... All eagerly waiting for 1.06 :)

Re playing with serious gamers, thats what we do, but occasionally we do some games as well with new people or new groups.... On one such occasion we had a player with suspisciouly high combined prod (lots of troops, good research and lots of supplies).. Checking the saves did reveal anomalies

If those who might be "tempted" know that we know and that we can check, I think that will moderate their "temptation"
