Back during 1.4's reign my friend and I were playing multiplayer, mid game we crashed, and since then we have never been able to play multiplayer again.

We have tried everything we can think of.. but are stumped. We played many games prior to this happening. The only thing that did catch my eye was a issue with dx9 being fixed. We both upgraded to that while trying to figure this out.. or I did when we crashed the first time which may have caused the whole issue..

Anyone know of anything strange that might be boogering our ability to connect? Is there DX9 problems?

Never had a prob with DX, but I have been stuck on a date before. Take the save game and run a few days in SP, resave and send to your friend and load it up as an MP. Sometimes you have to just get past the burp.

Sadly though whomever you play in SP, the other nations are run by AI for that small period of time, if you or your bud are UK play the sp as UK, if you dont you get porked, the AI changes your convoys and naval assigments over night.

Good luck

Can't work..

When we try to connect we don't even see each others games.. no game found error comes up. We have long forgotten about the game we were playing when it went belly up.. we have reinstalled and all that fun stuff since then..

Were just baffled.

Last night in desperation.. I installed my copy onto a second computer in my house and tried to connect them.. and I was unable to connect to my computer even on the local LAN.. tried both LAN, and Internet and placed in the IP address..

Though the computers could see each other's games, they could not join to each other.

We are currently able to play every other multiplayer game that we have with no issues.

So messing with the save game would be an idea.. but all of that has been blown out several times, and we would have to be able to connect before that would even be something to try.

Solved..

Hrm.. well it was a bit more odd then I suspected. Apparantly HoI utilizes port 1900 to some extent, and I had forwarded this port in a range to my computer from my router.

Hackers trying to assemble a army of zombie ant computers for DOS attacks on websites are port scanning for port 1900 and then interface with the Windows UPNP networking code to take some control over the comptuer.

Since I was behind a NAT I had discontinued use of ZoneAlarm, and I was left vulnerable to the attack. The only negative side to the intrusion was the disabling of my ability to play HOI online oddly. However there was of course bandwidth and performance issues too I am sure.

I used a program to disable Windows UPNP, and put zone alarm back on the computer and I once again can play.
