First, let's eliminate mods, as until they are updated by their authors they can cause problems after any new game patch. Please add --disableModding to the game's Steam launch options. Then start a new test city - do you still get these crashes then?

If so, please try this: Rename the "Cities Skylines II" folder in your C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order (to whatever you want) and then start the game. To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

The game will create a new clean CS2 folder and if that works it means that something in your original folder is corrupt and preventing the game from starting. Do NOT delete your original folder though as your saves are stored there and if you want to keep playing you'll need to move them over to the new fresh folder!

Let us know if that helps you. Good luck!

Sorry for jumping in, but same problem here. Did what you said here, and still no luck. I used to have the game installed from the Xbox app, but recently installed it from Steam and got the Blue Screen. I have attached the report in case it helps.

Same issue as above, clean install, followed deletion of all files including saves.

Player.log attached. Blue Screen mentions cryptographic error

Blue error screen immediately after the loading screen finishes (or at least gets very close to finishing). This is after a fresh install and with choosing the "code mods disabled" option in both Steam and the launcher. Same thing when using the normal play option.

Did you ALL do BOTH steps I gave in post #2? Using the launch option is necessary, disabling mods in the Steam mini menu does not do the same thing.

If so please check out the steps here:

I have a Gamepass version, so don't know how to disable mods. I installed game for the first time without mods, deleted folder in app data, reinstalled game two times, verified game files. Nothing helps.

Ah, there is no such option there in that edition. Please go to mods.paradoxplaza.com and unsubscribe from ALL mods and assets.

THEN do a clean reinstall:

  • Remove the game from Steam or the Xbox app (uninstall)
  • Manually delete all these files and folders, if still there:

…\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities Skylines II\ (if on Steam only)

…\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities Skylines II\

(first move the /saves/ folder elsewhere to keep your save games)

(To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer)

  • Install the game again and start a new test city (NOT load any existing one).

Good luck!

Nothing from above helped, no mods, reinstalled game several times to different discs (I wanted to play the game for the first time, didnt play it before), deleted files from appData... ridiculous I cant even launch the game on modern hardware 2 years after release.

You appear to have this problem:
[FileSystem] [ERROR] Content integrity check failed: Game System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Bad PKCS7 padding. Invalid length 0.

Please add your player.log to this thread
Hopefully @pdx_Mimonsi can weigh in on it soon.

Sorry about that!

Hello, this is an issue that happens to some people. Unfortuately we currently have no solution for that. It seems the installation files are corrupt for some reason. The developers have already been notified about this.

Until then, some people have had success when creating a new windows user account and installing the game there. Maybe it would be worth if you gave that a try.
