Yo! Good deal on the forums. BUT

Like a couple of the other posts seem to be having a few probs getting the game to run:

a) Installs OK, runs the intro movies and then crashes to desktop without warning or error message (for a millisecond have tantalising glimpse of a loading screen with a graphic of a castle). No white box or anything vaguely white-box shaped.

b) Currently running on an IBM Thinkpad with DVD drive and Win NT 4.0 (have SP4, have various DX5/DX6 spoof patches installed). Presume this is UK version (bought in UK via amazon.co.uk but have left box in office so can't check Koch label). Have tried starting game 5-10 times as possible work-around: no joy.

c) Have seen other posts indicating disabling CD Autoplay as a possible fix: Does anyone know how to do this under NT4 (the Control Panel device option are not the same as Win95/98)

Anyone with any ideas out there? Patric? Have spent a great deal of time tracking this game down in UK, with intent to putting in a good few hours over the Easter break, so it is /extremely/ frustrating running into problems (bugs?) like this

Regards

Jonathan

You might try to start the game from the Europa.exe in the program group instead of from the Auto Insert.

At least this will get your post to the top again - Patric might see and be able to help.

I have exactly the same problem.

I am running a Celerion P333Hz, 64 Mb with Win 98 and some sort of 4Mb AGP graphics card.

I know that it is not, or rather was not, a problem with my system because I successfully got the game to run at first. I played through the tutorial for a few hours and then decided to try the GC.

After about 15 mins of the GC (my computer had been on for several hours though because I had been playing the tutorial) I was crashed out to windows with no error messages (odd but the music was still playing). I re-started the machine and tried again and exactly the same thing happened as to the first post on this thread: The intro graphics work and then I get a loading screen which half fills with green before crashing me back to windows.

I have run a full diagnostic test on my PC since and it hasn't uncovered anything. Each time I try to run the game now I get the same problem.

I know that I am running a lower spec machine but it worked well for several hours, crashed, and now I can't get it to start at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am keen to build the empire for Spain again.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening?

I will try re-installing the game tonight (UK time) to see if I can get it to run.

It is a great shame I can't get it to work because I was just getting into it!

I think that I have solved this problem. You mentioned you were running Norton Antivirus and I realised that I was also.

I disabled Norton and tried to start EU again and it worked well every time. This was the only thing I changed so seems to be the problem.

Another thing that I found was that the game sometimes tries to auto-start when you are already playing it. This causes a crash on my machine so I turned it off.
