unable to lauch game

Hi everyone!

Here is the problem: I bought the CK+DV pack yesterday on Gamersgate and not matter how hard I try, I can't load the game at all.
The installation runs normally for both games, then I installed the latest DV patch.
When I lauch the game, the first step loads, but when I come to the "loading sound" part, it stops and I can see my mouse pointer when I move it (but I can't close the loading screen). I tried resinstalling several times, to no avail.

My OS is XP SP3. I run EU III smoothly on the same computer.

Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Rename your avi folder to avi.old and see if you then can load the game

Hi,

I renamed it but the problem remains.

EDIT: I also try to launch it wafter setting MUSIC_OFF in the "settings.txt" file, but it always fails when the game is initializing sound.
The game works on another computer, with Vista, tough.

MUSIC_OFF doesn't work.

If you just install CK, does the game launch? If so, that could imply you've somehow installed DV wrong. It must be installed in the same folder as CK, on top of it.

Yep, same problem with CK only. Could it come from a corrupt installation? My firewall (Comodo) bothers me very much when I want to install something.

Please run Dxdiag, run all test, save the info and post the first half.

Go to Toshiba home page and see if you can find newer drivers for sound and graphic card.

I just updated my sound drivers. it didn't change anything.
The video card drivers are those from Omega and they're up to date I think.

Try this:
Rename avi folder to avi.old.
Rename music folder to music.old

Just a remark: I installed the game in the default folder C\Program Files\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings.
However, when I checked the registry files, they are under C\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment and this folder....doesn't exist!

Could it be the issue, and if so, how can I change that?

I don't think that's an issue. I believe it doesn't matter. In fact, I didn't install the game on my desktop - I just copied the folder from my laptop to my desktop and it's working neatly.
