I have downloaded CK/DV and 2.1 patch... the game launches fine however all of the text boxes have black lines running through them making the game unplayable.

I use to play DV with Windows XP... however my new computer is Vista. Is that the problem?

Has anyone experienced this before? Any suggested fixes...

No, the game should work just fine with Vista.

Have you tried a complete fresh-installation ?

What screen-resolution do you use ?

I have installed and reinstall the game several times...

I have to admit... Vista has been kicking my ass for over a year or more and I don't even no how to determine what resolution I am playing in.

I did go to the "properties" on the CK exe file and tried running it in 640 x 480... didn't see to make a difference.

I might need a basic course in how to change resolution for the game... if in fact we think that is the problem.

I do appreciate the help... I am dying to get back into CK/DV while we wait for the CKII...

In the main crusader kings folder there is a text-file called, settings.txt, there you can change the resolution.

I have no idea though if that is the cause of your problem.

I think I found the txt/Notepad file you where talking about... this is what is has in there:

1024
768
MUSIC_ON

Should I attempt to change this? Suggestions?

Set it to match your screen-resolution.

Also have you tried to update your videocard-drivers ?

I was not able to change the text in the CK file (it wouldn't let me) but I tried changing my resolution on my computer to match the what was in the file and bingo I was able to play.

I deep into a game as the King of Jerusalem... and can't wait for CK2.

Thanks Veldmaarschalk!
