"unclean" exit; then can't init video?

Folks,

A high % of the time now, when I exit my game, the game
doesn't exit "cleanly" and reset the video settings on my laptop;
it leaves me in 800x600 mode instead of 1024x768; and then
next time I run the game I get "cant initialize video" and I have
to reboot to be able to run the game. Any ideas? Known
problem?

Yes this is a known problem and can be partially fixed by disabling the intro videos. Rename the avi folder to something else (avi_old) and you should get less problems, but it can occasionally occur.

I'll bet you're running Win98 or ME. This problem is almost entirely fixed in Win2000+
