uncontrollable son/heir

I've tried looking, but I haven't found an answer yet. My clan leader is fourth generation and this is the first time it has happened, but when my heir, who is my son, who is also the clan heir, turns 16, I completely lose control over him. Can't marry him off, previous engagement disappears. This seems to be a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Just bumping this, because it defintely feels like a bug to me. I can try to attach a savefile if that would help...

Whilst compressing save games I think I spotted the solution. He's hostage in another court, that's why I can't get a hold of him. Silly me really. Thanks for your time!
