To Slay a Philistine...
Jewish-Polish Refugees being trained for service in the Israeli Defense Force
In a campaign that lasted in just a little over a month, the 7 Brigades of the IDF destroyed 3 of the Italians best divisions. Because of logistical reasons however General David was forced to leave the island defenseless against any Italian Counter-attack. Furthermore, more pressing situations closer to home prevented the Israelis from maintaining forces on the Isle of Rhodes.
In Egypt, the Italian army was pushing the British forces back towards Alexandria and Beyond. Luckily for the Allied cause, the Israelis had just been able to raise 2 fresh brigades, the Levanoni and Kyrati Brigades, furthermore, another Brigade, consisting of Polish refugees was also being trained.
Issues were further complicated when in early July, Iraq joined the Axis Cause, and began advancing through Syria. The Jewish Nation was now caught between to enemies, and it was questionable whether or not the Israeli Defense force had the troops required to deal with these two threats.
In Early August, the British Royal Eastern Mediterranean Fleet sailed to Haifa, where it set up its new base of operations. The Italians were even winning the naval battle, as the Suez Canal had now been taken.
France, unable to aide in the Defense of Syria against the Iraqi Forces, ceded all of her Syrian Mandate to the new Israeli state, in return for access to Syrian Ports upon the cessation of Hostilities. The Israeli Government accepted this proposal and thanked God for their good fortune. The size of the Israeli state had doubled over night.
Within a day of the diplomatic deal, General David launched an offensive across the Euphrates River against the Iraqi Forces which had invaded Syrian-Israel. In a battle in which the Israeli forces were evenly matched against the Iraqis, General David pushed the Iraqis back into Iraqi territory.
General David Launches his offensive across the Euphrates
Keeping on the heels of the retreating Iraqis, David managed to Trap an Iraqi Motorized division near Damascus and sent the rest of his divisions toward the Iraqi Capital of Baghdad.
Not long after, the Government of Iraq Surrendered to Israel, and was annexed into Israel Proper. Before returning to Jerusalem, David set forth to found a new city upon the ancient ruins of Babylon, naming the new settlement after the Prophet Jeremiah, who gave the people of Israel hope in the days of exile.
In the second week of November, the first Italian Air Raids on Jerusalem began. The Israelis, with no air force to speak of, simply fired back with her antiquated Anti-Aircraft guns and took the beating. General David arrived back in Jerusalem on December 15th and was greeted by Generals Moshe and Sharon who told him that their scouts had indicated that the Italians were advancing on Jerusalem.
It was then that the defenses we constructed, and the preparations for the defense of Jerusalem began. It came as a surprise to David when the Italians did not attack, and by late January the Israelis were preparing to launch their own offensive toward the Sinai.
And once again show the ‘Roman’ invader the blade of Judus Maccabeus.
