I haven't played CK2 in a couple of weeks due to a busy schedule, but when I went to fire it up this morning I got a strange message. Steam booted just fine as did the launch screen for CK2 (the one that has buttons labeled 'Register' and 'Start CKII'). However, when I pressed 'Start CKII' I got a pop up with a white X saying:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application with close immediately. The system cannot find the file specified."

The pop up has a Details, Continue, and Quit button. The Continue button does nothing while the Quit button exits the program. Clicking on details gains me the following note:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Any thoughts on this?

This really should be in the tech support forum rather than the main game one. That said, hopefully a mod can shift it across.

So moved.

There is no known problem of this nature, I'd speculate that the new patch hasn't applied cleanly. Try using the Steam client to Verify Game Cache files. If that doesn't help try a full clean reinstall: uninstall the game from Steam and move any valued save games elsewhere. Manually delete the CK2 directories from under the Steam AND MyDocuments folders, now reinstall the game via Steam.
