I hope to be not opening a new post about something already discussed :)
What i wanted to achieve, since i have made various portraits, is that a scientist or engineer could come up with a specified portrait and a specified name...
Let's say for example i'm doing a star trek mod (which i'm not doing btw) and then i want that my Picard avatar doesn't come as a scientist with Bob Joe as name and surname, but i want that portait only for a fleet admiral which is named Picard...
Is that doable?
If it is not doable, then how can make it?
Can i add a button on the UI that can add a random portrait with a chosen name by me, so for example i press "Enlist an Admiral" and then i will be charged in influence points and then served random among Picard, Sisko, Janeway...??? (that's an example :D )

I'm asking this because for the mod i'm doing, it is really immersive-breaking the random names... i would rather compile by hand a list of "characters" in a file that can be summoned...

Short answer: No.

Long answer: I'm not sure about if it is possible to add a UI button, or if it would be possible to co-opt the existing recruit buttons, but if it is it would be relatively easy to recruit a random leader from a list instead of the normal system. I can think of one working workaround and that is to make a leader event that fires one day after obtaining them that changes their name and portrait to one from a pre-set list. You'd still recruit them as "Boris Johnsson" from the recruit screen, but after one day Boris will be turned into "Jean-Luc Picard".

EDIT:
However, making sure that they are Unique is, however, a much more difficult thing.

Well, in that case, if you know a post obtain event, even the standard way of obtain them can be kept, and instead pop that random event with a check on species first (if possible) to prevent the event from triggering when playing other races/species...
If somebody knows the trick, i would really like to see how can be done... i'll make a general portrait like: Science Recruitment and then after the event will be unlocked and set a random PAIR of name + portrait... :)

Well, i know that making them unique would be a PITA, thus making my race "cloned" would be better... :)

Did nobody else found this question interesting when doing total conversions?
Many if not all Races that you are gonna mod inside this game, have "unique heroes" on their own somewhat, for every great intellectual property like Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate etc... every one of them has got "unique heroes" that are either scientists, engineers or fleet admirals... that ofc you don't want to be named like random :/
