Just a random question (as I don't have the software I won't be doing this sort of thing myself, but it would be nice to know for the people who do)... will similar instructions become available later on for other types of units?

Yes, if we make those scenes publlic to, but if you have experience working with Maya it should
not be so hard making tanks and planes with the infantryscene
and the tools supplied. All settings should be the same.
(lighting, cameras and so on...)

@Darkmoor_Dragon: any progress? :)

Could you repeat the software requirements for those like me that get lost within many posts?

It would be good to have a recommended software list for "advanced users" and another one for "noobs" like me. E.g., one with 3D the software needed, etc... and another one with more cheaper and common software. That way people may find out that they already have useful software or that they won't be able to play with HoI's grtaphics uintil they purchase some software.

Ok... this is one:

Alias Wavefronts Maya
Adobe After Effects
Adobe Photoshop

Right?

What about other software?

Why Don't we fix the ones that are already there first??

This was mentioned way back at the beginning of this post but no one took it up.
Why don't we fix the icons that are already there before we try to add new ones??

Most of the majors already have different icons, they just don't show up for the players nation. They do show up for everyone else. For example, I gave the confederacy (I made a mod) the use of German sprites and by 1941 they were rolling around in Tiger icons while I still had the original German one.

I think it would make the most sence to get these icons to work first before creating new ones. If this has already been done and I'm just making an &%$ of myself, please direct to the thread that fixed it. :D

The most important Software is the 3D software.
It is possible to convert the 3D infantry scenefile in a software like polytranslator. (http://www.okino.com/)
Then you should be able to use most 3D software.
There are many good and cheap 3D software on the market today. You will need some kind of 2D software as well, like photoshop.

You have to use the ingame pallette ( ingame.PAL) to get the exact game colurs on the bmps.... done that and the image displays... but...

Changing the palette reference bmp doesnt make any difference ... so.. what am i missing?

Forgive for entering but for years I have drawn details and props within Maxis/EA SC games....and from the pic I see your "invisible background color is wrong. This has to be set to 255,0,255 in almost every game I know of and every paint program I know.I have not looked into this part of HOI yet.But I think this might be a solution.Foregive me if I'm wrong.....are those models from SSI games btw?

Thank you.

What about Ulead's PhotoImpact 7 as the 2D? It's just 100 u$s and compared to PhotoShop in price is way more cheaper.

I'm gonna take a look at that url. :)

-Very good question Panzer39, I am wondering the same thing. For some reason no one is answering this question. There are a number of sets of icons already included in the game, jets, new tank models, etc. But when you upgrade your jets, tanks, etc. for some reason the sprites do not change in the game, they stay the same. I have asked if this is a bug because it must be otherwise why would those sprites be in there in the first place? Can anyone with authority answer this question? Or has it been addressed already? If it is fixed in the next patch? I am really surprised that this has not come up sooner.

My 2 cents: I think the gfx model was borrowed from EU series, when a certain tech level for ( say) land forces is reached automatically changes "uniforms" for youe entire army. If this is the case with HoI too, then having 3-4 gfx levels will simply mean the last (the newest) one is displayed to reflect the tech advancement. The results would be odd.
