Infantry, motorized, armor, marine, mountain remains the same. At the moment, I've changed paratroopers to heavy fortress infantry (there will be no air transports so they won't be able to be airlifted ;) ). Mechanized is a mess since they are "hard attack" targets which means that the original idea of an elite (grenadier) unit won't do. Maybe we should leave that slot out.

Artillery and engineer brigades are the same. Either we go for a siege/chemical artillery brigade and the AA brigade, or a siege artillery and a chemical artillery brigade and leave the AA out.

Just an idea...

I'd change "Paratroopers" into "Grenadiers" and "Mechanized Inf" into "Fortress Equipment" (ok, I didn't find a better name... :eek: :p) with a movement factor of 0, so they can be only SRed...

Thats nice. Yes, hard attack on fortress seems better. :) Didn't think that far. :rolleyes:

A movement factor of 0 is impossible, 1 is minimum, but what the heck, fortress infantry could move. :)

This may well be a point more for the OBs, but I would suggest making all the german regular infantry in 1914 with attached artillery BGDE to acount for their better employment of heavy artillery, and its allocation to divisions. This should facilitate some of their initial advantage, giving them more hitting power in the early campiagn.

This should, only be for the Active divisions, not the reserve, which had far less artillery.

What about Armoured Cars? They could be the same as mechanised couldn't they? The British were using Rolls-Royce Armoured cars at this time I think...

True, but they would not be deployed in divisional strengths. But then, neither would tanks, aircraft, zeppelins, etc...

Aetius, armored car techs are in, but I think we make those techs benefit the motorized infantry instead. Those divisions will be some kind of mixture between motorized/armored cars.

Suggestions for ships:

Battleships
Rename Pre-war --> Pre-Dreadnought.
Change seaattack = 6
Change seadefense = 10
Change speed = 18

Rename Basic Battleship 150mm+ --> Dreadnought
(leave values as current)

Rename Basic Battleship 350mm+ --> Battlecruiser
Change seaattack = 9
Change seadefense = 7
Change speed = 32
This unit wouldn't be dependent on developing the 350mm gun first - but the next unit (Improved Battleship) should be.

Rename Improved Battleship --> Super-Dreadnought
Rename Advanced Battleship --> Fast Battleship
Ignore Nuclear Battleships...

Super-dreadnoughts would be ships with 13.5"/350mm guns or better (ie British Orion, KGV, Iron Duke class, German Bayern class, Japanese Fuso, Hyuga, Kongo class, US New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Tennessee class, Chilean Almirante Latorre class, Greek Salamis class, Turkish Reshadieh class)

Fast Battleships would have 15" or 16" guns (British QE, Royal Sovereign class, Japanese Nagato class, US Maryland, South Dakota class)

Thoughts?

More on ships:

Keep cruiser stats as they are, but rename them:

Pre-war Cruiser --> Old Cruiser
(use this unit for any ships built before 1900 and still in service)
Basic Cruiser --> Light Cruiser
(use for ships with 6" or less guns)
Improved Cruiser --> Armoured Cruiser
Advanced Cruiser --> Heavy Cruiser (only use for ships designed and built after 1914)

Destroyers:
Pre-war Destroyer --> Torpedo Boat
Change range = 1000

Basic Destroyer --> TBD
(use for destroyers under 300 tons)
Improved Destroyer --> Destroyer
Advanced Destroyer --> Improved Destroyer
(use for destroyer classes designed and built after 1914)

Carriers
Suggestion only:
Prewar Carrier --> Seaplane Carrier
Change aircraftcapacity = 0
Change surfacedetectioncapability = 2
(I assume doubling the surface detection capability will make these ships detect the enemy twice as often? That's the intention, anyway. These ships can't carry an aircraft strike force, but they can scout out the enemy fleet's location).

Stephen

I would have the following classes of ships:

Battleships: (Attack/Defence/Speed)
Pre-Dreadnought
6/7/20
Dreadnought
11/13/26
Super Dreadnought
13/15/27
Improved Dreadnought
15/17/27
Battlecruiser
14/9/33

These could be altered by changing the calibre of guns involved.
400mm guns add +3 attack, -2 speed
350mm guns add +2 attack, -1 speed
300mm guns add +1 attack
250mm guns add +2 speed, -1 attack

Cruisers:
Pre-Dreadnought cruiser (Old cruiser/protected cruiser)
4/5/22
Light cruiser
5/5/26
Armored cruiser
7/8/22
Heavy cruiser
10/12/24

alterations:
250mm guns add +2 attack, -1 speed
200mm guns add +1 attack
150mm guns add +2 speed, -1 attack

For destroyers, I agree with Stephen's post.

I've found out that brigades can't be activated, they're always in from the start, which means that we have to get around that problem by giving gas, and siege artillery brigades zero in all stats from the start. They are buildable right in the beginning, but won't add any stats to their division until later when you research those techs. Do you think that is "ok"?

/Elisson

That should be fine, and it seems to be the only option, unless we leave them out, which we should not do.

Steele

I didn't think they were that effective..

I think instead of rockets, the research should be towards "Super Cannons" You know, the massive barreled guns.

You mean the Big Berthas and the infamous Paris Cannon. Like Zeppelins, they were not very effective either. In the grand scheme of things. There were not enough of them to make a difference. Like Zeppelin raids, they were mainly terror weapons, having a greater propaganda value than military effectiveness.

However, the big guns did have a huge propaganda effect, especially the Paris Gun. Shells falling on Paris made people think the war was much closer.

Although, it is probably the only gun ever to miss a target as big as a city on numerous occiaisions.

Surely the GW Modification cannot have tanks in divisional strength - even towards the end of the war?

Whereas one tank unit in the standard HOI equals a division, perhaps one tank unit in the GW Mod should equal a brigade or a regiment, and should be downsized in strength accordingly?

GAS!!

If nukes can be loaded on any type of units but just airunits is coded you could use the nuke rules for gas. An load them only on chemicál units only and only when gas is researched and produced.
Happy easter
