"Unknown string wanted" message error

Hello,

i've just bought the game from Gamer's Gate; and they asked me to report my problem here.

I used the download manager, and installed the game; but all strings in the game (from the loading screen, to the menu) are replaced with the infamous "Unknown string wanted" message.

I have the lastest Crusader Kings build from GG;
Windows XP SP2 french version;
latest directX version (9.0c);
nVidia 6600 GT and AMD A64 3200+, 1 Go RAM.

OK. The "Unknown string wanted" message almost certainly means that there is something wrong with text.csv, event_text.csv, extra_text.csv and similar files. Or that the game is unable to read them properly for some reason.

Check that you have those files. They should be in your config subfolder of CK.

No. It means, almost certainly, that the installation is done on a non-English language version of Windows.

Stilgars, what you should try is this:
1. Uninstall the current installation.
2. Set your windows to English language (regional settings - I'm afraid I don't know how to do that in French XP)
3. Install the game.
4. Change the language settings back.
