Welcome to the forum.

1. Uninstall the current installation.
2. Set your Windows to English language
3. Install the game.
4. Change the language settings back.

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options (On Win XP home edition skip out the Settings).

In the Regional Options tab choose: English

Then go to the Languages Tab and click on details. In settings click on Add. Choose English. Forget about the Keyboard layout, as its not important. After clicking Okay, English should be added to your list. Make sure it is chosen in the Default input language and then click Ok and Apply.

Back in the Regional and Language Options window, go to Advanced and once again choose English. Click Apply and you should now be asked to restart your pc to ensure the settings have been implemented properly. Go ahead and click this.

When the pc boots up again, you are ready to install the game.

Once you have installed the game, go back to the Regional and Language Options and just revert to what you had for all the options you have changed here. Once again apply where necessary and then restart when asked. Once you have booted up you are ready to play

I had this problem too once. The installer thought it would install the game Victoria instead of Crusader Kings (the installer seems to be badly ported). Changing some Registry Entries (search for Victoria under Paradox Games) will make the game work. But you may have some problems with updates and the game will still think it is Victoria. But you can at least play. ;)

First off, an apology to the moderator, I know that you don't react to ppl upping the old threads well, but I think it deserves to be upped.

Another thing, which may cause the said problem is the file modtext.csv for modded games. I have discovered that sometimes this issue arises when you have many mods installed, the possible way out is to copy the event descriptions and actions out of modtext.csv to deus_vult.csv. It worked fine for me.

I have a legal Russian copy, properly installed with all the regional and language settings set as required.

A good advice !

Turned out that I was initially mistaken as to the solution.:eek:o It IS about modtext.csv but I found out what my issue (telling me "Unknown string wanted") was about.

If you comment some line with # you have to put at the end of the line the following: ;;;;;;;;;;X otherwise it will return the said message.

So say, you have a headline "Gigaus events" to specify that the events below are of Gigaus, then you have to do it as follows:

#Gigaus events go below;;;;;;;;;;X
