As soon as I turn on the game I get an error msg that says "unknown string wanted." Any ideas?

What country are you playing, for one? Does the mod look OK (apart from the 'unknown string wanted', obviously? Which event?
I saw that too a few times. It happens during the battle and it looks like one of the generals was supposed to get some trait (you know, like ranger, desert fox etc..), but he get "unknown string wanted".
I do recall we've added one of those during the 0.4.0 Beta - can't recall exactly which one though (best guess is the elastic defence trait).
