I purchased Europa Universalis a while back. The product out of the box was version 1.05. As there was a newer patch out I tried to install it. The download section on the paradox site listed many versions. None of the ones I tried worket.

I have a version of the game that is in English but the box and the manual is localized for Estonia by "ASE Computers".

I tryed the UK, the North American and Scandinavian versions of the patch. All of them said that I didn't have EU2 installed.

So how can I determine what version of the game I have. The Readme does not seem to state anything about it neither the cover of the CD nor the CD case.

You are talking about EU2 right, not EU1?
Look at the CD and tell me whos logos are printed on it.

The only logo other then Paradox is that of the "ASE Computers". In the small inner circle on the data side of the CD it reads - Baltic Optical. Probably meaning the game was printed and packaged here in Estonia as it is a partial localized version. As I said, the manual and the "DVD case" backside is in Estonian

And yes it's Europa Universalis 2

Here is a link to their site, they are a totally legal distributor of the game, just which version of the game remains a mystery. No contact infromation can be found concerning their localized games. They are a PC components retailer mostly. I did e-mail the sales department so they would route my question to the proper person yet nobody has replyed.

Okay I will kick this upstairs and see what is what.

remind me if you do not hear back in a couple of days.

Well the good news is I got a quick reply, the bad news is, well bad news.

You do indeed have a licenced game.
However they do their own installer, so you need to get the patch from them. Sorry. :(

Hmmm, yeah, there is this little piece of paper that came in the box that I can send away and add my contact information and as they state get technical support. I guess I'll do that then. If it turns out they were stupid enough to make the game unpatchable and did not develope a patch of their own then I'll be out for blood. Ok maybe not blood but I'll me pissed mightily.

Thanks for the help I guess.

Maybe there is a way of manually adding the registry entries that are needed for the patch installer to work. I don't think there is a difference in the directory structure of the game files between version. I really have no idea but I assume that is the case. Either of the UK or US patches should work, no ? If I could only make it recognize that the game is infact installed.

I know when SF delayed the NA version of HOI 1.03 and 1.04, some people modified their registry to be able to use a different patch. The patch closest to yours would be the European English patch.

If you get a responce from your publisher let us know.

Great!

Yes I will keep that for future reference.
