Unofficial SMEP for DD *Under new management*

As eRadicate can no longer find the time to work on DD-SMEP, he's returned development to me.

Fixed the bugs that were mentioned in the thread.

The new version is available here:
Changes include bugfixes, some leaderpictures that somehow got lost and removal/editing of events that affected balance. As a small enhancements project DD-SMEP aims to be "balance neutral", balance changes are left to other mods that may be used together with DD-SMEP.
Also a reminder event for slidermovement is included.

I'm just wondering how you did this. Did you go through all events, and then decided to keep or cut them? Or did you take a "shortcut"?
I wanted to release my own "dd-smep-release" today, but you beat me to it :) Also; as it seems you've done a much more thorough job, it's not much use for mine.
What i did was deleting all events in a clean 1.2 install, except for doomsday_death_events.txt, doomsday_coup_events.txt and doomsday_elections_events. Then i copied all events from a hoi2-1.3b+smep install into the doomsday events folder. I also fixed the minister files.
That way i got more or less exactly the same events as in normal smep (except for the three files). Only backside is the missing doomsday events, but as one guy pointed out in the last thread, there isn't many events in doomsday whitout a smep equivalent.

One more thing; i notice your minister files are an exact copy of the ones included in smep. As doomsday included alot more ministers, it would be nice to use them. I've copy-pasted in the extra dd-ministers into the minister-files for smep. If you're interested I'll be glad to mail them to you.
 
i just checked the mod... a lot of things doesnt work... there were a BIG amount of event that havent showed up at all(I just loaded the game and already a lot of the starting events were missing) A lot of the territorial claims event didnt show up(Hungary's claims on Chzeckoslovakia, Italian claims on Yugoslavia and others...) Fix it quickly... Im sure that if I had searched for a longer time I would have found a LOT more... the only positive thing that I have seen in YOUR version is the event that gives France an option to do something about the Remilitarization of the Rhineland... that didnt show up in the "unofficial SMEP for doomsday 0.13"... but seriously, a LOT of event didnt show up...
for now its seems like the guys at the other thread made a better job

I haven't played the other one, only noticed it was dead. So that question is moot, especially since I believe the other one doesn't include all SMEP events yet.
In any case I plan to fix any bugs reported here.

Are you going to convert SMEP 5.0 when it comes?
Will you seriously upgrade your mod?[I mean, are you going to still support it or are you going to leave everything...]
Unless SMEP 5.0 includes a comprehensive changelog (specifying by event number which ones were added/changed) it would not be a matter of converting, but redoing the entire mod. Perhaps I will, but it depends on what 5.0 adds.
To answer your second question, basically this DD-SMEP4.5a is merely to support my own mod. I'm not going to add new events, but I will try to remove any bugs.

I would have much preferred it to let the guys at the other thread do the job, unfortunately, they didn't, so now I'm stuck with it.
That said, if you want me to fix something please give an accurate bugreport! Yours is far too vague to be useful.
Please state exactly what was supposed to happen, and what actually did happen.

Who is supposed to gain what cores? Please provide the province number or a name so I can locate the event.

Italy suppose to have NO CORES(in the original she does, in SMEP she doesnt)
at Dalmatya(that area at Yugoslavia x_x, sry I couldnt be more specific!) and Hungary loses her cores at Slovakia! Pay attention that most of the starting events at SMEP are for taking cores out and not giving new ones.

You can either play a game yourself, or type 'handsoff' in the console to make the game run by itself. Then you can check the history-log for missing events.
Could you run SMEP 4.5 for the first day, and see what events fire? (Use the history.txt) Then do the same for DD-SMEP4.5, and tell me which events are missing. I know the 4 removing cores from Italy, Hungary, Mongolia and the USSR are, but perhaps I missed some more.

I started a game[managed to reach april 1940, 36 scenario] and... weird things happened :X. 1st of all, the independence guarantee event for GB and Poland didnt fire! Poland fought Germany alone x_x and I cant DOW germany :wacko: . Chzekoslovakia joined the axis[this probably relates to SMEP cause I have never known that there was a path for German-Chzek allience at the Treaty of Munich.] and taken parts of Poland for herself!(there was NO partition event. they have taken what they conqured. I dont know if thats a bug, but that was weird.] They have also taken LVOV[suppose to be SOVIET!!! The Ribbentrop Molotov event fired, Historical Path!!!] and there was no "Honor the Pact" for Germany or chzek![Soviet got eastern Poland as suppose to be, but Chzecoslovakia still controlled Lvov...] The Poland VS Axis war was weird... I dont know if the guys from SMEP even planned Chzeck-German-Soviet partition of Poland. It could be their fault. Anyway, other weird things happened,[the Spanish Civil War worked well, Nationalist where victorious after a 1.5 years, quite an intresting fight]
List Of WEIRD Things:
1.Marco Polo-Japan picked: We Cant Afford War!!! [First time Ive seen this. Not a bug, just weird]
2.NO Ultimatum for King Zog event! IT DIDNT even FIRE![I guaranteed Albania's independence. Mabye it influenced the game? Weird...]
3.As I said before the whole Poland vs Axis became very weird... the event that is related to GB-Poland allience didnt fire...
4.NOTHING is going on at the east... 3 years passed from the Marco-Polo incident and no one has done anything![Guanxi - Chinese war ended the historical way, Communist China offers peace event fired and worked fine.
Again, could be just stupid AI that doesnt attack the Chinese... Japan doesnt wake up!!!
5. CTD at 1940 April... 1st time happened to me for a LONG time. dont worry, I saved every month. Ill continue that game.



Anyway, the game was weird, bugs or no bugs. Still the fact that 2 IMPORTANT events didnt fire is annoying.[Guarantee Polish independence & Ultimatum for king zog.]
Im annoyed... mabye I should start a new game... it wasnt quite "historical"... acctually it went so ahistorical that SMEP probably didnt understand it. Never mind. I realy want to know if the Germans at least dows the Allies. What happened could be a gamebraker cause there are NO wars right now and its 1940 April! Damn Japanese! Damn Germans! Damn Russians!
DAMN DEMOCRACIES!!! I want some wars[I deployed 81 garrison divisions!!! I WANT TO BE ATTACKED!!!]
This game can be intresting but it can also be broken... only time will tell..

PS: Where do you live? I want to know the time difference between us so I wont wait for a reply like an idiot :X. BTW. Can you give me a list of all the original SMEP's events? Their changelog is kind of messy :X

So there was an "Honor the Pact" for Germany, right? (Otherwise the SU wouldn't have gotten eastern Poland)
SMEP has events for Slovakia, Romania and Hungary to give the SU eastern Poland, but not for Chechaslovakia. So this is an original SMEP bug.

That's because Chechoslovakia joined the Axis. The Ultimatum only fires if Chechoslovakia is partitioned or annexed. No bug. :)

That worries me. Before you continue and if you ever have a CTD again, could you check out the history.txt? I want to know what its last entry says, it may tell why the game crashed.

I realy want to know if the Germans at least dows the Allies. What happened could be a gamebraker cause there are NO wars right now and its 1940 April!
There are two more events which can lead to war in SMEP, but they didn't/won't fire because the Poles fought.

Please save your history.txt if something strange happens. It's a very good help for figuring out what went wrong. In this case, everything became messy because of the 1% chance that Chechoslovakia joined the Axis.
Perhaps I'll simply remove that chance, otherwise I'll have to do some event writing/editing to fix it.

I live in the Netherlands, but I'm somewhat busy taking exams right now. And I don't have a list of SMEP events, wish I had. :( That probably would have made the conversion a lot easier.

It's fixed now. Germany demands Holstein and Alsace if they are at peace, no matter wether the Poles folded or fought and lost quickly. Similarly, the UK will offer independence to Poland if Czechoslovakia joined the Axis. The original SMEP conditions were too demanding.
If Germany demands Holstein and the Danes fight, they will automatically join the Allies.

BTW, just fix the problems with chzekoslovakia when it joins the axis. Dont remove it! Remember, the things that make SMEP cool are the possibilities! So lets not erase, just add ^^ )

1 last thing. WTF MADE JAPAN not DECLARE WAR upon N. CHINA???
[Two things that are probably 1% in one game. THATS some BAD luck X_X)

Now for more:
I continued playing till 1942 April(I had CTD only when quiting... in that allience scores screen... dont worry, the game is saved) The game became weirder[I sware!]! The damn Chinese decided that they want to unite China and they declared war upon Yunnan,Comm. China and Guanxi[we are talking about 1942 so it was king of a smart move. Free IC and resources because those armies were stuck at 1918 or 1936 while the Nationalists already had HUGE armies of 1939 and 1941... even Commie China had no chance so Im quite impressed that the AI didnt stay passive. Remember! No war with Japan... they had 5 years just to improve economy\army... I bet they even had airforce and tanks :> ] and they are now destroying them... they dont stand a chance... Europe stayed completely passive, but there were even more wars at the east. Japan attacked the USA[and her puppets] and the allies[me :mad: ] at 1942 February[It felt so weird, the attacked USA and the Allies without even attacking China before... well it's a possibility] and started being realy aggresive[Oh, I play normal\furious... I want wars!] they attacked Netherlands and British[MINE! :mad: ] colonies. They attacked Malasya[which I freed only to get 10 dissent and only to be conquered by freaking Japs!] and those stupid Japs used SINKIANG in order to take India[again, they couldnt attack me from China... cause its free... |: )
I felt so stupid, I didnt even prepare for a war at the east... I lost all of the important colonies at the east including Hong Kong and Bruney, My fleet was at the mainlaind doing nothing, my airforce as well, and ofcourse my ground forces(I was always looking forward for a German invasion so I would be able to stab them with my great Airforce & Navy and sea transports of 9 armoured divisions... in the end I needed to transport everything to India... sucks)
Now the stupid part: Sinkiangs forces got close to delhi and I was at panic. Then, I used my entire airforce[even Strat Bombers and Interceptors :wacko: ] to destroy the pathetic divisions of Sinkiang... after some attacks their whole army was destroyed. I stopped the game after sending nepals forces to capture Sinkiang for me. My plans for the future are to transport my ground forces and to start owning the Japs with the combined forces of my great airforce, my huge navy, and my strong armoured and infantry divisions[I even put some deadly self-proppeled artillery on them :D ] Ill tell you how it went[it doesnt matter, they will lose anyway, they are fighting with me and the USA at the same time while they dont have a chance againts the USA alone...]

Some important stuff:
Why the heck did the Soviet AI dow the baltic states???[it did!] Mabye they need France to fall for higher chances or what? |:
BTW the Finnish Winter War worked smoothly and historicly.

P.S: I think the minister events for Germany didnt fire... Hjalmar Schacht[CANT spell his name omfg X_X] was still the aramant minister at 1942!!! [mabye the Germans just chosen "No" at the event... Bormann is their head of government so I guess it worked. Check it just to make sure ok?

At the next game Ill save history, ok?
 
I was just thinking. Dont you think we[you :p ] can modify SMEP a bit? I was looking into some file and there are a lot of things that can be changed[even by an idiot like me] by only changing numbers or a word. For example: at the Remilitarization of the Rhineland event there is only 1%[!!!] that France will say "Pull your forces off , jerk!!!" and only 0%[ :eek: ] that France will say "Time to die Hitler!" There are historical problems here. First of all, the Belguians[yes yes, the Belguians!!!] were involved in that event too![could be my mistake, for some reason I remember Belguim involved...] If I remember well thats what happened at real life: Hitler remilitirized the Rhineland[of course ;) ], the French seen this as a very big threat upon their security. They wanted the support of the UK, but the UK had its own problems and wasnt willing to participate in an active assualt[the idea wasnt to assualt Germany. It was to make Hitler's forces run away, but to do that military support will be needed, and of course there was the chance that it would drag Europe to war again] The Belguians[again, if I remember well] had the same opinion as the French. As we know from real life those countries were very fragile because their democracy was very fragile... In real life it was quite obvious that they werent realy ready to fight. All of the democracies had enough problems from the inside. The big economic crisis also made things much harder for democracies, and they crumbeled VERY often.

Now for examples of adding: 1st of all, I noticed that there is no event for the Soviet Union to annex the baltic countries![there is an anchsluss for Germany and Austria! Historicly its almost the same... the soviets didnt fight the baltic states...]
You have to Demand Territory from them... how silly... I can for example check what was the exact date of that in the internet and we[you :rofl: unless you will teach me how to do it too] will make an event. This is just one example that crossed my mind. It doesnt look too diffucult, it just takes time.
What do you think? I like modifying, not only copying from others ^^. I read a lot about that period[WWII] and I think that I am able to think of new events as well.

True. I added an event for CZE to give those provinces to Germany and SU, so together with the fixes mentioned previously it's all fixed now.

Actually it's a 5% chance in the Marco Polo incident. Nothing special, it's happened before. :)

The damn Chinese decided that they want to unite China and they declared war upon Yunnan,Comm. China and Guanxi[we are talking about 1942 so it was king of a smart move.
Was there some event involved? Otherwise it's probably the more opportunistic Doomsday AI at work. ;)

P.S: I think the minister events for Germany didnt fire... Hjalmar Schacht[CANT spell his name omfg X_X] was still the aramant minister at 1942!!! [mabye the Germans just chosen "No" at the event... Bormann is their head of government so I guess it worked. Check it just to make sure ok?
There is a 20% they choose "no", so that happens relatively often.

There's always room for improvement. But while I'm willing to fix bugs, for now I really don't want to put in the time to expand SMEP. Keep in mind that I have another mod, which has my main focus.
I prefer to keep my mods simple & relatively bugfree, compared to complex and in perpetual beta status.

However, once DD-SMEP is more or less bugfree I'd be more than willing to give the whole project to you, so you can add/expand additional events yourself. Are you interested in that?

On the other hand, you can learn how to write them yourself. For example, copy the "Anschluss" event-chain and change countries, dates and triggers, etc for the Baltic states. Check other events to see how those changes are done.

An alternative would be for you to contribute such additional event chains to the developers of SMEP5, so they can include them. Then later they can be converted to DD-SMEP5.

Of course Im intrested at modifying! Still I have some questions, and I need you to explain some things to me. I realize that writing event is something that I cannot be though only by you explaining. but, for example, I would like you to copy an event chain here and explain every part. I want to know the basics[BTW. Can I use notepad for that? or will it cause problems or something?] If I learn how to do it Ill surely help and add some things.
Ill attempt to make a baltic annexion event right now[do you think it's a good idea? I mean, the event. I think that the "Territorial Dimand" is an absurd way of showing what happened]

Im glad that there were no bugs[though the game was awfully unlucky].
1. 5% is still a very low chance
2. Japan that owns a chinese puppet can be much more powerfull at the continental wars at asia than Japan that havent fought at all[China produces gigantic amount of infantry. They can ensure victory at some important spots like India Burma and Malaysa...]
3.I dont think that the "Chinese rampage" was caused by an event[could be an event thouth, but I havent seen that...] So I guess the Chinese AI is not that dumb...
4.I knew the "nofog" trick. anyway I was just kidding about tanks and airforce. They probably just pumped out dozens of 1941 infantry divisions...

Use notepad, or a more advanced text-editor like notepad++. I use both at the same time. :)

Every event has a unique id number. You can use notepad++ to search all event files at the same time for checking wether a certain id number is already in use somewhere.

"Country = " en "random = " are obvious.

"Trigger = " gives the necessary conditions. The event can be fired between its "date" + "offset" and its deathdate. An event can also be fired through the command: "trigger which = " in another event.

Without a given trigger the event will simply fire at its "date" + "offset".
There is also a second "random" command, which gives a chance the event will fire.

Then add the name and description, "style = 0" and specify a picture. The pictures are probably located in some GFX subfolder.

Finally add the "action_a", "action_b", etc, with names and commands.

I suggest you first copy-past parts of existing events, modifying their values. I'm not exactly a skilled event-writer myself... ;) just "made" my first event today... (Giving SOV/GER provinces conquered by an Axis CZE)

True, the combined chance is 0.01%. But because SMEP has so many events, things are very likely to go ahistorical in some way.
