One feature I would Like is that once you have finished building a Ship you should have the choice of deploying It as a new ship in which case it would require manpower and would start with a lower organisation and experience level. Alternatively you could bring a earlier model ship into port and upgrade it so that you keep its experience, most of its organisation and would need no extra manpower.

Would only work if the AI is able to do the same BUT, and this is a huge astronomical BUT, in reality not that many ships were upgraded, so it depends on the level of historical accuracy that you want to follow.

What I were suggesting is more along the lines of giving the existing crew a new ship rather than actually upgrading an existing ship The main thing this would do is keep the experience built up by the crew.

Interesting, but I can think of no historical example of this
