Useable Tags?

I'm thinking about poking about with EU to create a more interesting game....I just took a look at text.csv.... How did the IGC folk come up with so many to use? Which ones are not used in the game? Which ones are ahistorical and can be used without changing history as we know it? Will using the MUS and NAT tags cause any problems? Could anyone give me a hand? Thanks.

I can't answer your question, but I think using NAT will cause a problem. So far as I can tell, PIR, NAT, and REB are special countries used to keep track of pirates, natives, and rebels, respectively.

That's correct State Machine.

SPR is not written anywhere but can be used.
HEI and KAL are also free to use.
MER as well will not work.

Other tags can be used at will, pretty much, but then only as replacement, not additions.

So, without eliminating existing countries, you can add 3 brand new ones that currently don't exist in any scenarios and are not revolters: SPR, HEI and KAL. If you add SPR, make sure to add SPR references to all files that need it such as buildingcosts and text.csv

The Bantu actually exist in the game? I need to check out some of these other scenarios included with the game (I've been playing the GC heavily)... MER will not work... hmm... that's going to be a problem. Thanks for your help.

Just as a precision,

MER will not crash your game but it is not fully functional. For instance it has no diplomatic interaction so it makes no marriages, wars, etc. It might be hampered further as well but I do not know the specifics since I discarded it and stopped using it as an option then.

REB can be used to give rebels control of Provinces, if you want to stimulate unrest in an area for instance, but REB never owns Provinces, nor does it have anywhere near normal interaction with other States (basically automatic war status).

Also keep in mind that the sprites (the units) that come with the TAGs are hard-coded so that if you like a consistent look, adding say the new nation of Wales by eliminating the Bantus (giving Wales the BAN tag) will make the Welsh look like African natives. As well the religion preferences of countries are hard-corded into the TAGs so if you decide that a free Pisa should get Holstein's tag, don't be surprised if Catholic Pisa suddenly turns Protestant or Reformed.

SPR sprites look like those of European minors as do HEI's (Holy Roman Empire) and KAL's (Scandinavian Union of Kalmar).

And re the Bantus, I do not know whether they exist as starting nations in current Paradox scenarios (AFAIK) but they certainly are possible revolters.

I too would love to get a dozen or so new tags from Paradox but I understand their focus right now is on bugs and multi-player issues. Maybe also the system has a tag limit because, in case they all got to co-exist at once, there'd be too many AIs at once. I don't know.

Hey, the million $ question...

Well, I have removed some starting nations in GC (Pskov, Kurland, Iraq, Tripoli, Knights) and revolter Holstein while I added Montenegro, Mantua, Ryazan and Pomerania as starters. I have also added revolters Serbia, Transylvania, Greece, Finland, Ferrara, Armenia, Novgorod and Antillia (I did not like the New Spain name since, what if it arose out of another State?).

However I would like to bring Pskov and Holstein back for historical reasons and reassert Iraq as a potential rebeller.

I think Pisa, Wales, Flanders, Styria (an autonomous bishopry for a period) and Bremen are defensible choices as would Quebec or some entity in Eastern Canada as a revolter.

Really the new tags would give flexibility without having had to scratch valid original nations. The trade-off would be much less painful since, of the original nations, Kurland and the Knights are really the only two I enjoyed killing off (Kurland cause it never lasted more than 5 years against Poland and its disappearance weakened the Teutons and Prussia too much) and the Kinghts cause they never did anything but sit on their island and send puny ships when their allies declared war.

Hartmann, didn't I see you whishing for a way to set independent provinces in eastern Europe with no real governing ?
Wouldn't the MER tag be a possible candidiate for this ?

I think not. How to make peace with them? Or does it work this way round (can´t remember now)? IF so, then there´s still another problem: All those neutral provinces should be treated seperately so that they change ownership automatically when conquered. Now if we spread the "MER" country all around, one probably would have to conquer provinces elsewhere completely to get the one wanted. Lastly one couldn´t get the neutral "capitol" without annexing all neutral territories as a whole. A bit weird.

Salzburg was the independent bishopric during the period. Styria was one of the core Habsburg provinces. BTW Hartmann, did you see my suggestion that Salzburg province should produce salt instead of ireon?
