Useful information about reducing CTDs

Description​

Recently, I found a way to reduce drastically the frequency of CTDs on my playthroughs. I suffered more than one CTD in the span of 2 hours of gameplay after the game passed through the 1870's. It didn't really matter if I had the mods on or not, as vanilla also crashed all the same. The latest series were on a full-vanilla 1.5.9 Brazilian playthrough. Most happened between 1860 - 1900. I dropped this save file after this year.

Coincidentally, I decided to improve cooling behind my mid-tier laptop: turned on a small fan directly beside it. No, it wasn't a PC-input fan, it was a common desk fan. It worked wonders! The game never crashed as I strolled nonchalantly through 1836 to 1905 in a Brazil playthrough using lightweight mods.

As it turns out, overheating must play a major role on intel processor cpus. It's worth looking into it.

Steps to reproduce​

Have a mid-tier laptop (intel i7 9t gen processor, GeForce 2060 GPU, RAM 16GB, SSD 512GB). Have Windows OS. Have the most recent version of Victoria 3 (1.5.9). Have a desk fan.

Find a way to raise your laptop to improve ventilation. Turn the desk fan right behind it.

Sounds like your fans have skill issue
That is you need better fan for CPU

Update: The "miracle cooling" doesn't survive against post-1920 calculations, unfortunately. Even lowering settings and game speed, CTD ravages the game every once in a while.
