let me start this suggestion by explaining its origins. I really like the fact that the Manchu update expanded the Manchu conquest of China by giving it its own narrative, full of events and missions that affect the whole region.

However, most ofl those events and missions affect nations other that Manchu and Ming from the outside, with no input from say Dali or Zhou, except for what the Manchu content creates.

This lead me to the idea of Regional disasters. Re4gional disasters would be somewhat similar to disasters, except they would affect a buch of nations at the same time, although not necessarily in the same way. Regional disasters would have a Major actor and Participants, and they would be affected by the disaster differently. Let me explain with an example of a Regional disaster.

Regional disaster: European invasion of Mexico.

This disaster would start once a nation with capital in Europe starts a conquest war in Mexico. That nation would become the Major actor. All the nations with capital in Mexico would become Participants. The Major actor could get a set of events detailing the story of the expeditionary forces, meanwhile the Participants could all decide on their stance in the war. The Major actor would also gain a CB on any Participant not on their side.

For one, Participans could help any other Participant which would be a defender ina war with the Major Actor, joining the war on the Participants side. Alternatively a Participant could offer their help to the Major actor, hoping to avoid its wrath. The Participants would experience a number of events depending on the chosen side. They could also remain neutral, hoping to gain something once all of this invasion business blows over.

The disaster would end once the Major actor is triumphant or driven off. Winning means that the only remaining independent nations with capital in Mexico are those on the side of the Major actor. The Major actor could then choose to annex or vassalize them. If the Major actor is not at war with any nation with capital in Mexico for at least a year and there is no other nation with capital in Europe currently invading, the disaster ends as a victory for the Mexican nations. If there is another European invader, they would join the disaster as another Major participant, but the sides in general would reset (meaning nations that previously cooperated could now choose to defend their independence).

Other ideas for Regional disasters include stuff like the Mughal invasion of India, the Revolution in Europe (revolutionary target being the Main Participant), the European diseases in the New World (this disaster would not have a Major Actor) or the Revolutionary sentiment in the New World (the Major Actor would be the first nation to declare independence in the New World).

Really interesting idea. I think that such a model could be adopted for the HRE league wars, with participants joining one side or the other and a long period of events and gradual increase in tensions, with many decisions to be taken by participants on both sides of the conflict.

Another one could be the dissolution of the HRE. Just allying and occupying capitals is a bit limited, and then once done it just happens. Germany is a bunch of tiny nations, ready to be attacked or vassalised.

Instead, after the HRE is dissolved, there could be a German confederation chain of events/disaster where German minors can band together against hostile foreign powers or an encroaching major German power.

Agree. But also, my first thought when reading OP was the Reformation.

Really depends on if this system would be limited to conquest-y things?

The first thought that came to mind for me was the rise of Shi'ite Millennialism in 16th Century Iran and Turkey, a regional disaster would be a nice way to have it present without railroading, and would fulfil the dual role of providing challenge for both Ottomans and Timurids.
